I was VERY DISAPPOINTED after watching this video. It was very boring, and while I got a couple tips on how to strengthen the hips and back, I would have a hard time watching and listening to it more than once. The background music, and instructors voice almost put me to sleep. There was lots of information about osteoporosis which seemed repetitive in the beginning...

Years ago I bought Jane Fonda's first aerobics video, and after one try, I never did it again or bought another exercise video. Then someone gave me Skeletal Fitness as a gift. It's perfect for boomer beginners who don't like to exercise but know they have to get started. Mirabai Holland's gentle, encouraging approach didn't intimidate me, and she didn't make me feel inferior when I got tired along the way. In fact, she offers alternative ways to do her workout for people who don't have the flexibility to do some of her stretches.

I also really like this video because it explains the importance of each exercise and how/where each one helps your body. I feel like I'm learning a lot at the same time as I'm giving my body a workout. At the beginning, there's a good explanation of what osteoperosis is and how giving your bones a workout - it's called bone-loading - can help prevent the disease. After the workout, there's an even more in-depth discussion of osteoperosis.

If you've gotten a diagnosis of osteoporosis or osteopenia from your doctor, this video is just the prescription for beginning to rebuild your bone mass. Mirabai Holland begins with a clear explanation of what weight bearing, bone loading exercise can do for you and then leads you through a step-by-step workout that you can easily do at home.
After doing the workout for a while you really feel good about taking charge of your body and doing something positive just for yourself. I found myself smiling back at the TV screen as Mirabai assures you that these exercises will make you stronger and more fit for life.
This would be a great gift for your women friends and relatives!

I loved this video!! It is a balanced easy-to-follow workout for anyone with concerns about osteoporosis, or for anyone new to a fitness program. The instruction is one-on-one, making you feel like you are having a session with a personal trainer. Very little equipment is required. Mirabai Holland provides detailed direction on how to do each exercise, as well as explanations of what the exercise is intended to accomplish and why it is important. At the beginning and the end of the tape, there is lots of very valuable information on the causes, treatment and prevention of osteoporosis. A real winner!.

I would highly recommend this videotape. I had been looking for exercise routines for dealing with osteoporsis and am really glad that I found this. It was informative and user friendly. The rationale was presented clearly and the exercises were demonstrated so that I could easily see what I need to do. Options were given so that I could adjust the exercises to my current level of fitness plus ways that I can adapt as I progress. I have read and been told that I should do some weight bearing exericse, but didn't know exactly what would be an effective routine. I believe that I have found one and will continue to use it.

I'm a former gym junkie and lifted weights three times a week for years. I must say that Skeletal Fitness has completely replaced my lifting routine. I now have confidence that I'm doing everything to stave off osteoporosis for my entire body--including areas that my previous routine didn't address, such as the wrists. I would award the video 10 stars if I could--it's that good. Plus, Mirabei presents herself as the kind of instructor anyone would welcome into her home on a regular basis.

I have always been active but have never exercised or weight trained prior to being diagnosed with osteopenia. One can feel confident that they are indeed helping their bones and not causing further injury to them with Mirabai Holland's expertise as an aerobics/exercise instructor and her many certifications. In addition, her voice is very nurturing and pleasant. I only wish that there were more of a variety of videos to choose from for people that are concerned with strengthening their bones.

This video has very simple easy to follow instructions for building your bones. It doesn't even seem like a bone workout, but the results are excellent. People who haven't exercised don't have to be afraid of this video. It is not difficult.

The information that Mirabai gives you, and the reinforcement all help to guide and encourage you to continue to build your bones.

This tape has a no nonsense atmosphere. It is focused on performing exercises that should strengthen bones and muscles, while not pushing too much. The presenter is very professional. Explains every thing during workout, but does not waste too much time, since there is a detailed preface at the beginning of the tape.
I like it, especially as all the exercises are done standing up . My only reservation is that it is a little monotonous and technical, but on the whole, it is a good purchase for those seeking to strengthen their bodies in a controlled way. Suitable for younger and older users as well.

I used this video for 6 months after illness make me extremely weak. Doing these exercises made me stronger and much more flexible, without causing any damage to fragile bones - severe osteoporosis. A good video for someone just starting to exercise - instructor is excellent and supportive - tells you how to do the exercise safely and explains what muscle groups and bones are being used. I have graduated to more strenuous exercise DVDs, but this DVD provided an excellent start.

I have used this exercise program for a few years now. To make it easier to manage my time, I do the upper body workout one day, the lower body the next and then skip a day. This workout is complete and covers every area of the body that is prone to fractures. The program uses weights, resistance and isometrics to challenge the bones in different ways. It starts with a short warm up and ends with a nice relaxing and stretching section. I like that you can go directly to any of these sections on the DVD from the menu. You can feel that the exercises are challenging you but I think anyone can do them. Mirabai guides you every step of the way with hints, reminding you to breathe and encouraging you. She is a very pleasant instructor and easy to follow. I know that my time is well spent in doing something positive for my bones.
