4.0 out of 5 stars Oster 2803 - Nice Unit
We just received and have used our Oster 2803 a few times. Handy grip, nice weight, simple operation are its features. It is suitable for everyday use and cleans up easily. Glad it isn't like the old heavy monster electric knives of a few years ago. Only one deficiency keeps it from a five-star rating: The bottom of the motor housing is rounded, so when placed on the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Pro: Compact. Con: Not as good as some others
I bought Oster electric knife after using a bulky Toastmaster electric knife with top handle at my mother-in-law's (not sure about exact model, but it looks similar to the Toastmaster Electric Carving Knife 6110).

I had good experience using the Toastmaster and I liked the compactness of the Oster knife. I also liked that Oster came with a storage case (the...

We just received and have used our Oster 2803 a few times. Handy grip, nice weight, simple operation are its features. It is suitable for everyday use and cleans up easily. Glad it isn't like the old heavy monster electric knives of a few years ago. Only one deficiency keeps it from a five-star rating: The bottom of the motor housing is rounded, so when placed on the counter during use the whole unit swivels around and rolls sideways. The motor housing needs to be flatted on its bottom so the unit would remain stable and upright when put down. Overall, however, a good unit at a reasonable price. The bonus fork is a nice extra!

I also liked that Oster came with a storage case (the bonus fork was not a deciding factor for me. As a matter of fact, I wish it was not included, so that the storage box could be smaller).

The Toastmaster performed great cutting London Broil into nice uniform slices; I expected the same from Oster, but it did not perform as well. Due to it compact handle and lighter weight Oster knife was harder to keep straight and it required more pressure than the Toastmaster.

Oster has nice looks and it is NOT a bad product, but, compared to the Toastmaster knife I used, the performance was not as good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Star at Thanksgiving, November 7, 2006
This review is from: Oster 2803 Inspire Electric Knife with Bonus Carving Fork (Kitchen)
I have a set of regular chef's knives, but there is ONE application for an electric knife that is unparalleled. That is carving turkey or ham, but especially turkey. The meat of a roasted turkey tends to tear, even with a good slicing knife. The oscillating motion of an electric knife does a great job on hot turkey and speeds the process of getting the sliced meat to the heated serving dish and to the waiting holiday table. I never use it otherwise, but for two holidays a year (Thanksgiving and Christmas) it is indispensible.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too Dull for Bread, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Oster 2803 Inspire Electric Knife with Bonus Carving Fork (Kitchen)
I have used electric knives of various models to cut homemade bread for years, with great success. This is the worst knife I have ever tried. It vibrates so badly that my hand is sore after only a couple minutes of use. It is also far too dull to cut well (a safety feature??). I would recommend looking elsewhere for a good knife.

4.0 out of 5 stars Oster 2803 Electric Knife, May 14, 2007

I bought one of these for our daughter to carve the corned beef briskets last year when we were in Kansas City to celebrate St. Patrick's Day with our grown children. It worked so much better than the one we currently had. It's action operated smoothly and the way the blades and handle align it made it much easier to use.

We actually bought two - one for ourselves and the other for a friend that smokes a lot of meats and complained about her old electric knife.

She likes the new one as well as we do.

For the price, and for a disabled woman, this what I needed to carve my meat myself. It is a bit clunky and hard to assemble, but for my condition, (Only my right hand works), I was able to manage alone

After two uses, left blade stopped sawing. There's a clip in the handle that fits a notch in the blade, and it is too weak and too far out of alignment to catch the blade. Guess it's going to goodwill.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the Sharpest Knife In The Drawer, January 3, 2007

I have been disappointed in this knife. I have had several electric knives but I've used this one on 2006 Thanksgiving Turkey and Christmas Ham. Both times I had to get a regular slicer knife to save face. I do know how to use a electric knife and know not to try and cut,"just out of the oven meat". This needs more weight and redesigned blades for holding a sharp edge. Does come with a nice case and carving fork.

5.0 out of 5 stars Third time's a Charm, April 9, 2008
This review is from: Oster 2803 Inspire Electric Knife with Bonus Carving Fork (Kitchen)
I bought and returned two electric knives before I finally found the Oster 2803 Electric Knife. I love the way this knife works. The design of the handle makes it easy to use. Even someone with arthritic hands can use it! It is especially helpful to have the power button on the top of the knife allowing me to work it with my thumb. And, to top it all off, it cuts well too :)

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Durable Enough, October 31, 2010

With such a low price I was not expecting a heavy duty commercial grade product, however, the first use was also its last.
Slicing through two (8 lb. Tri Tip) cuts was too much for it and the internal gears stripped and that was it. I used light pressure so the knife would do all the work too, but it just is not tough enough. If I can't use it to slice beef, I don't need it.
I ended up with a $20 carving fork in the end.
