After reading a number of reviews on various 4 slice toasters, I was a little worried about purchasing one. I was pleasantly surprised by the Oster 3905. The unit performed admirably toasting all 4 pieces of toast evenly and QUICKLY. I would recommend this toaster for anyone requiring a 4 slice toaster and on a budget.

Pros: FAST toasting, retractable cord, bagel feature, price, wide slots.
Cons: One set of toast may not toast at the same rate as the other. Who Cares....adjust the darkness setting accordingly!

I bought a Dualit toaster with some gift cards from my wedding. I'd heard this toaster was top-of-the-line and not to be missed. I was so excited about that toaster. I was heartbroken to find out for myself that it was nothing short of an expensive piece of junk. It would only toast one side of the bread, it often smoked and overheated, and it finally just flat out died only a year and a half after I bought it. I actually did the happy dance around the kitchen when I could toss it into the trash. I decided I was really going to do my homework when buying my next toaster. So I read umpteen reviews and I heeded Consumer Report's reviews of toasters. Based on Consumer Report's word, I bought their lauded Haier TST850DS. I thought for sure I had finally found a winner. Nope. The Haier toaster only toasted at one level -- super light, bread still semi soft -- no matter what number you selected on the dial. I turned that sucker up to the highest level and still got the same result: chewy, soft toast without any crispness. I had to run the bread through three cycles before it showed any signs of golden brown. I was beside myself over my toaster failures. All the while as I was buying expensive and highly rated toasters, my mom raved about her little Oster and how it made perfect toast and how she paid $20 for hers at Walmart (blah, blah, blah). I couldn't believe that an Oster could out preform these other toasters! But I forgot the golden rule: MOM is ALWAYS right. I had been lusting after a working toaster for years. My mom had been enjoying perfect toast for years. It was time for the Oster and at $30 it wasn't a big gamble. THIS TOASTER IS THE HOLY GRAIL OF TOASTERS. It toasts evenly and perfectly EVERY TIME. I could not believe how much I missed good toast until I had it again with this toaster. (Mom of course said: I told ya so!!) I probably ate half a loaf of bread myself in the first few days this puppy was up and running because I couldn't get over the fact that I finally had a great toaster. I adore this perfectly working toaster. It toasts frozen waffles beautifully as well. Haven't tried bagels but I have absolutely no doubt this toaster will do that perfectly as well. Wider slots than I've seen so far on a toaster. A monkey could set this up out of the box and figure out the controls. Not bad looking in my high-end kitchen. No smoking, burning smell ... just the delightful aroma of warm, toasty bread. From the owner of the top-of-the-line Dualit AND the Consumer Reports best pick, take it from me that this dime store ditty is WAY better than expensive toasters. Let the label snobs eat bad toast out of their stainless steel retro looking toasters -- I'm keeping my Oster and my perfect toast, thanks.

Poor choice, would not recommend. Toaster toasts only one side well. Otherside is under toasted. This happens every time regardless of slot used. Increasing toast setting burns one side before other side is toasted nicely. No way to win with this one... Worst toasting toaster that I have seen in a long time..

After buying toaster after toaster with problems it was great to get a product which worked right out of the box and I'm happy with it.

This worked wonderfully as a fathers day gift since our old toaster is junk, I love the wide slots, you could put Texas toast in there there.

I purchased this toaster about a year ago from Target, and it's already broken. A couple of months ago, it started toasting very inconsistently -- only toasting one side of the bread, not toasting at all even on a higher setting... Well, as of this week, the entire right side has stopped working.

I'm so tired of spending good money on crappy, low-quality products that end up in a landfill after a year. Sadly, not even the "good" brands are any good these days.

I've owned a number of toasters in my life, but this one has performed the worst. Controls are flimsy, right-most slots kept getting stuck, and finally failed entirely in less than 6 months. Darkness controls are also inaccurate (2 barely toasts, while 4 burns, hard to say what 7 is capable of). The only thing I like about this toaster is that it accomodates thick bagel halves. My recommendation: find another brand and avoid Oster.

We bought this toaster at Target because it was cheap and looked kind of cute and functional. Plus, it is not a high-tech appliance; all it does is toast so it can't be all that bad, right? No. It is junk. Even on the zero setting, it has burned toast. The dial goes up to 7, but unless you are using frozen bread, if you go above a 3 or 4, you will have black smokey toast. Also, the mechanism for pushing up the toast is shoddy. If you don't have thick bread, your bread will slide under the mechanism and even when you pull out the crumb catchers in the bottom, there is only tiny slotted access to the toasting area from underneath, so you'll have to shake the toaster upside down or shove a knife in there to cut up the stuck bread and pull it out. We've put up with this thing for a year and a half because we hate to replace a "functional" appliance, but it is really a piece of junk.

Pros: The cord retracts into the toaster, but only when you pull it all the way out and guide it back in.
Cons: It's not a toaster, it's a burner. It also still smells like melting plastic when it's cooking, and we've had it for 1.5 years!

Nice toaster for the price since it has an option for bagel toasting which is convenient. I find that the bread does not toast evenly and burns on one edge even though the dial is adjusted.

Owned this toaster for about 6-month to a year, didn't use it all that much. Not every day. The left side doesn't work anymore. Guess for $25 what can you expect, but you know- it's just so aggravating!
