Alternative mini jar,
By Bob "Bob" (Tennessee) - See all my reviews

I had purchased 4 of these oster mini jars for grinding coffee beans, spices, etc. They work very well for that purpose. Later, I discovered that the pint sized Mason Jar will screw in to the base of the blender and can be used in the same way as the plastic jar (which over time seems to crack a bit and gets cloudy from abrasion). The advantage is that you can buy a case of 12 mason jars for only a couple of dollars more than what you pay for 1 plastic jar. It's worth a try and the mason jars can be used for other things if you don't need that many for grinding, blending or chopping.

I just tried using an empty pickled cucumber jar...these are similar to the mason jars..and they will last longer than the mini jars...i got two minis already..i hate to think that the plastic that breaks and shreds into micro particles is in the food I am feedin my family...prefer the glass any day! u can use them to grind larger quantities too!!!!!!!!!!Thanks to the other reviewer who pointed this out!!! Simply Amazing!! Update..Especially for those who Frequent India or Indian Stores here.. We get these chutney jar attachments for oster grinders in INDIAAAA...I was still looking for something sturdier than the glass mason jars..so when I went to India I carried the oster blade attachment with the black bottom thinking I can ask them to make one for me...To my surprise shops were already selling these attachments ..the proper steel chutney jar attachments ...and if they didnt have it in stock they would make one for u...since I had my oster attachment to confirm...I could buy it...but even without it..i dun think it wud be a problem...The only thing is get few extras of the rubber bottom that fits on to the mixer... to attach itself...coz...i was almost upset to see that its wears off a bit when u first run the mixer.....but that happened for me just the first two times..It actually took the right shape of mixers attachment...its doesnt sound inspiring..but believe me.... now the chutney jar works perfectly with my osterizer...I make lotsa coconut chutney and grind whole spices..and this one really stands up the best...I havent had to replace the rubber bottoms as yet..and its been a year since I have been using it....Oster is a very well known brand in India and Vimal is the company that makes these attachmets for oster...Now I Love my oster!!! Hope this helps...u can also try checking with ur Indian store here...mine didnt have any...but u never know. Ohh and the Steel Jar comes with its own four blades...so thats twice the power..Next time I go to India, I will also get the Big Metal Jar for better or say quicker grinding for my Idli/Dosa Batters which is also available. Hope this helps all who came looking for the better solution to these mini jars on this page. Update..Okay...I did go to India this time and oster has launched there too now. So we get these great Chutney jar and Batter Jars too which are not offered by oster here in the US. Since Oster had just launched I could not get just the attachments but I called them and the Rep let me know that Oster is distributed from our dear neighbor MEXICO and we can always call them up and get the attachments specially meant for the Indian market or difficult to grind foods in general (Coconut spices etc). I shall update with part number the next time.

Use this to grind my flax seeds. Love that it has a screw on cap for storing in the fridge and a cute little handle. I bought an Oster Blender not knowing if it was worth it or not and I really like it. I also appreciate the fact that Oster has so many replacement parts here on Amazon.

my search for mini blender over!!!!,

hiI was so excited about this product that I had to write a review for it!! I recently bought this oster blender mini jar on amazon to use with my osterizer 6640 blender. I was on the lookout for a mini blender for some time now to do small jobs like single servings, grinding spices....I bought magic bullet express and what a disaster!!!! waste of 65$. I returned it the very same day and started searching on the net once again for better option when i accidentally came upon this mini jar( I never knew it existed till then!).I bought it immediately for just 4.5$!!!on amazon, It arrived today in my mail.Just clipped on my old blender blade and attachment to this jar ,added some ice cubes, milk coffee to the mini jar and here I am sipping delicious cold coffee writing this review. The ice was fully crushed (My blender has the ice crushing agitator blades) and oh so convenient , I don't have to wash anything, the jar can be washed in dishwasher . I feel good about finding an excellent alternative for a mini blender and saving 60 $$$$ . Please don't waste money on fancy expensive blenders in the market. if you have oster/osterizer blender, buy these mini jars, they are GR8!!!! thanks Archie

This jar is smaller than you expect.. very nice to grind spices and stuff though. It's like 4 inches tall. It's a nice little accessory for the osterizer, so you dont have to use the heavy glass jar all the time.

This is a sturdy plastic jar, great for dry & wet grinding .Making coconut chutney in small quantity is a breeze. I found that it always needs to be filled three fourth capacity to get good results. Only thing concerns me is its plastic coated metal cap which I think might rust over time..but hoping that this might not happen. Going for a plastic lid jar might be a good idea. Overall a good investment.

Works ok for chopping nuts.,

I have an Osterizer Regency blender which I purchased new in 1981. I was thinking about buying a new food processor, but was happy to find necessary attachments for my Osterizer here at Amazon. So I'll continue with the old Osterizer for now. This mini jar is not glass, it is lightweight plastic, not as sturdy, and I'm not sure you'd want to put really hot (boiled) liquid into it. It worked quite well for chopping nuts. I'd advise pulsating, rather than using the "on" -- also, remove it from the base, shaking it, return to pulsate -- or remove the cap and stir, to move any unground nuts down toward the blades. It fit snugly onto my original Oster blender jar bottom cap (i.e., plastic cap, rubber gasket, and metal blade); but didn't fit quite as snugly on a newer bottom cap which is not made to fit quite as well as the original. The mini jar is a 2-piece item: 8-ounce plastic jar with little handle, plus metal screw-on lid for storage. It'd work well for coffee, and spices, if you have the correct blade on hand, since I don't know if the ice blade would work. Never tried. I'm using the original blender blade.

Save your money,

I thought these were the handiest little things for the longest time. Only problem was that they would rarely last even a year before the glue failed and the bottom would just fall off. And NO, I didn't put it in a dishwasher or microwave. I got tired of forking out the money for these things and discovered through a friend that you can just use a mouth mason jar instead. Check it out. Take your blender base and blade and try them on any mason jars you have until you find one that fits. They work fantastic, you don't need to use plastic anymore, and finding a lid that fits is no problem. So save your money.

The mini jar is reasonably functional in that it enables one to blend small quantities. However, the upside down orientation means that if you need to add a tad more water or one additional ingredient, you need to unscrew --> remove the blade assembly --> add the stuff --> screw in the blade assembly again. All in all a clumsy process, especially considering that a little bit of the liquid inside is sure to spill out while unscrewingThere are no real alternatives in this size range of jar however. |
