Disapointing,
This review is from: Oster 2577 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixer, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
Oster is one of my favorite kitchen appliances brands, but unfortunately this mixer is below average. Key for any mixer is its speed control, and this one hardly seems to have any. It almost starts at full speed, which implies that more liquid mixtures end up all over the place except your mixing bowl. Conclusion: I do not recommend the purchase of this product.

Speed control??,
This review is from: Oster 2577 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixer, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I was excited to finally have an electric mixer. This thing is powerful, for sure, but the lowest speed is already going full tilt! If you need to cover yourself and your possessions in flour, have at it. Otherwise, avoid this piece of junk!

Great mixer for cookie dough,

Although I agree about the power, it is the ONLY mixer I have ever found that will do oatmeal raisin cookies with ease...with some practice you CAN keep things from going all over...with flour you are supposed to add no more than 1/3 at a time anyway...I use the mixer a bit, then scrape sides with spatula, then mix again...mixing in brief spurts is the key here...
Since I rarely use my mixer for anything other than cookies, and especially oatmeal raisin cookies...although I just did some zucchini bread and had no trouble... Use a deep bowl with steep sides for mixing...that is what you are supposed to use anyway to control things from spattering. I am a serious cook and love this thing...my complaint with other mixers is NO power, especially with cookie doughs. I am buying 2 more...one for my other house and one for a gift... Those who have trouble with the speeds, try my suggestions above, and I think you'll be happier with it...but I do agree, Oster needs to work on the power issue a bit with this one...there really is no difference between high and low...I have not tried this on anything more complex like a souffle or a flan, but I imagine it will do quite well. I bought this because I HATE my (EXPENSIVE) Kitchenaid, which I find pretty worthless, and I find the attachments for grinding and other things even MORE worthless...In my mind, the Kitchenaid products (I have a food processor too which I am not fond of) are over hype and not worth the money they ask for them. Were they not so expensive, I would toss them both out. I recommend this mixer for anyone who is a cookie baker...and I'll try this soon on flans and such. Anybody want to buy a professional kitchenaid with every attachment known to man? LOL I hate the thing. Totally worthless in my opinion.

Great for high speed; Bad for anything else,

This review is from: Oster 2577 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixer, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I was excited to order this mixer because of the retractable cord and the strong motor. Unfortunately, though it says it has six speeds those six speeds are actually high, higher, very high, ultra high, extremely high, and most high of all. Though it's great for whipping cream or beating egg white, you cannot mix anything at low or medium speed. At first I thought I could live with it, but I can't. I'm going to buy a different mixer. I do not recommend this to anyone unless you want two mixers also.

WAY too powerful to be useful,

This looks good, but even on the lowest speed it's too powerful. And there's little variation from low to high. It's also a bit big and much heavier than my last hand mixer. Definitely NOT the right mixer for me. And unless you want butter and sugar or eggs splattering your kitchen walls, you, too, are better off with a different model.

Variation in speed no longer working...Too Fast,

This review is from: Oster 2577 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixer, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
At first I was pleased with this inexpensive mixer, but within a few months I noticed that it no longer had much variation between its low and high speed. The low speed is so fast now that I am unable to mix anything without splattering my counter and walls. It's especially bad when there is flour in the mix. If you don't completely work the flour in by hand you are guaranteed to have it flying all over. Will be buying a different mixer today. It's too bad it had this problem because I did appreciate the retractable cord, weight of the product and the ease with which the beaters were put in and out.

Powerful and durable,

This review is from: Oster 2577 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixer, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
This Oster hand mixer is a worthy bearer of the Oster name. It is extremely powerful for any mixing job and makes short work of it as well. My only complaint is it may be a little bit too powerful. Definately start on the number 1 setting before increasing the speed. For the price it is outstanding.

No speed control,
This review is from: Oster 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixers (Kitchen)
I have the same complaint as everyone else, the mixer only seems to have one speed, and it is way too powerful. I'm not sure why there are 6 speeds either, as they all seem the same. If you want to beat something thick and heavy, then this might be just the thing. But for whisking an egg with the included attachment, you better get ready to clean the egg off the walls. I can't imagine what would happen if you tried to use the cocktail attachment!
I did think it seemed well made otherwise, also liked the retractable cord, but unfortunately the speed problem makes it virtually unusable. That's why I'm on amazon today, looking for a new mixer. Hate that I wasted almost [....]bucks on this.

No speed control,
This review is from: Oster 2577 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixer, Black/Stainless (Kitchen)
I found my mixer to have the same problem that the other reviewers addressed. 6 different speed selections, but there's practically no difference between low speed and high speed -- more accurately, there really isn't a low speed. Very bad situation when you try to mix dry ingredients into wet. Flour goes everywhere.
Additionally, it could be more streamlined than it is. It's too tall (distance from handle to tip of beaters) for me, an ergonomic problem. To save my shoulders I either need to get a new mixer, or lower my countertops. Last comment: the retractable cord feature doesn't work well. I have to keep pushing the button and forcing the cord to rewind. For me, this was one wasted purchase.

awful,
This review is from: Oster 6-Speed 250-Watt Hand Mixers (Kitchen)
since I dont have my receipt I'm writing a review on amazon to take out frustration.
My complaint is the same as the others - the speed control. I got this mixer as an affordable stopgap since my stand up mixer is broken. I bake often, and every time I use this mixer, I want to kick myself for not returning this the night I bought it. The minimum speed is ridiculously high, makes for messy mixing and useless for some items altogether (eg brownies, muffins) don't make the same mistake I did! |
