5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Nice Toaster Oven
Even after reading some of the poor reviews I decided to try the toaster on my own. In general I agree with the fact that the glass that faces the back of the handle could've been much better insulated or protected, however, as long as we keep in mind that this is an oven and should be handled with care I don't believe this is too much of a problem. The oven itself is a...

I purchased this toaster on sale at Target. It looks nice and seemed to be just what I wanted. But it has an important design flaw. There is a strip of metal along the top of the glass door. This strip gets VERY HOT in a short time. When you use the handle to open the door, it is very easy to burn your fingers. The first time I used the toaster I got significant...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Nice Toaster Oven, February 12, 2010
This review is from: Oster 6081 Countertop Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
Even after reading some of the poor reviews I decided to try the toaster on my own. In general I agree with the fact that the glass that faces the back of the handle could've been much better insulated or protected, however, as long as we keep in mind that this is an oven and should be handled with care I don't believe this is too much of a problem. The oven itself is a great machine. It heats up items thoroughly, the knobs seem to be of a good quality, it looks great in our kitchen, the convection fan is not loud, it is very roomy, and the price is not very high. As far as price goes, I reviewed some models of other brands that were in the $125.00 range which were, in my opinion, very comparable to this one in features, looks etc. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Toaster Oven, April 28, 2010

I purchased this toaster oven about 2 months ago to replace one that caught on fire while the wife left her toast unattented (she used the tempature setting rather than the toast setting). I really like this toaster oven. The convection setting is great for frozen waffles, chicken nuggets, pizza, frozen bread, toast, etc. The waffles are cooked evenly and to perfection in 3 minutes without pre-heating the oven!! The oven looks great, however it is a bit larger than most others. The oven seems well built and so far no issues. Keep in mind it is an oven and will get hot!! Use the handle to open the door, that is the intended purpose, and you won't get burned. :>)

The first time I used the toaster I got significant burns on all four fingers. I returned it to the store immediately. When my hand heals, I will look for a toaster oven that does not have metal parts right by the door handle. What were they thinking?

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oster 6081 Countertop Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
After a month of use, we are pleased with the Oster toaster oven. It works well for its intended use. Some minor issues: only one rack was provided instead of two as on our previous Oster. Also, the timer knob turns clockwise easily but is harder to turn counterclockwise to set the exact time (the instructions call for turning beyond 20 minutes and turning back, e.g.-for toasting).

The fan in convection mode is quiet and the door handle doesn't pose any heat issues (as noted in another review) if you take the proper precautions with an appliance that will get hot when used.

Unlike previous toaster ovens that we've owned, the Oster doesn't make a screeching noise when opening the door.

So far, we're very pleased with our purchase and hope it will last a long time. Based on our short experience, we would recommend it to others.

1.0 out of 5 stars lousy appliance, November 22, 2010

This review is from: Oster 6081 Countertop Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I've happily used Black & Decker convection/toaster ovens for years. In our house we use the counter-top model far more than our full size oven. We use this every single day. In September of 2010 when we made a long distance move, we left our old toaster oven behind, so I needed to buy a new one. I guess B&D was gearing up to roll out new models, because none of our local stores had either older or new models. I settled on this Oster. It's pretty. That's about the nicest thing I can say about it.

Other reviewers have mentioned issues with the door. I haven't had problems with that, however the handle can get a bit hot so caution is needed when opening the door when baking. I have had no problems with toasting, although I do like bagels and toast browned, which is what I get on the light toast setting. If you like your toast very light, you will be hard pressed to get that with this unit, unless you hover over it and pull your toast out at the right moment.

For baking and roasting, this thing is horrible. It gets way too hot. A frozen pizza that bakes at 425 for 12-15 minutes in my regular oven and in my old B&D model, burns on 350 after 9 minutes in this thing. So you end up with a pizza that is undercooked in the middle, but black on top. This unit does not brown anything. It goes from uncooked, to charred. There is no in between. We've tried different settings to no avail.

After 2 months with this piece of junk, we give up. We accept the $70 spent on this as a loss and today, now that our local stores have stocked new B&D models, I'm buying a new convection/toaster oven. This unit is headed to Goodwill.

1.0 out of 5 stars At least it looks nice ..., November 17, 2009

This oven looks nice on your counter top, but it's poorly designed and awkward to use. There are a number of silly, non-intuitive cooking modes. Some of these appear to override the front panel temperature setting. Why?! The inaccurate timer means that there's no reproducible way to make toast. If I turn the timer just a tad too far, my pita goes up in flames. Oster should stop letting its marketing department design products without actually testing them in the real world.

3.0 out of 5 stars More of an oven than toaster, September 17, 2010
By
This review is from: Oster 6081 Countertop Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
We got this as a wedding present. I wasn't impressed taking it out of the box. It looked like a good toaster oven. It's covered with brushed stainless steel (very thin gauge) and painted black steel. It came with a chrome steel rack and a broiler pan, and has a convection feature that makes it work like a convection oven. The quality looks good enough and this should last you for years.

I am not sure why Oster designed this the way they did. There are multiple settings you can use for various tasks like toast (for toast), warm, broil, convection, etc. It has a timer that has a setting for light toast and dark toast. The oven won't turn on without the timer being set, but there's a feature that allows continuous heating without using the timer. The temp. range is 150-450 degrees F.

It is pretty much pointless to use this to make toast. It takes forever and the toast feature is useless along with the other functions (aside from the convection feature)! You need to watch it closely or else the timer will burn your toast.

If you are going to use it for more than toast, then this is a good unit. We used it to make brownies (it will hold a 8x8 or 9x9 baking dish/pan), and with the convection function it baked them in about 25 minutes, which isn't bad. This is a toaster oven, but really all it is good for is baking or warming things.

Now, it will toast your bread, but if that is all you are looking to use it for then get a toaster.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dangerous, for sure, April 12, 2010
This review is from: Oster 6081 Countertop Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I'm with M. Mohrman on this one. I just bought the toaster yesterday and used it today for the first time. I received burns on the back of two fingers when I went to grasp the handle to open the door. That metal strip gets burning hot and is a serious design flaw. A friend suggested putting a strip of padding and some duct tape to cover it up. HA! That toaster oven is going right back! I'm going to read the rest of the reviews on Amazon to figure out which one to get next, so, hopefully, I won't get maimed again.

I had a B&D Toaster oven for years and I used it some and, well, more often lately. It was better than using the big oven. Then I decided I could cook bigger stuff if I had a bigger oven. So I read reviews, and looked and looked. I didn't want something that dominated a whole section of counter. or that I could use to cook a huge turkey. Hey, I'm a single guy, have a bunch over sometimes, but usually it's me and a big dog. So I wanted versatility, and usefulness. BTW, mine came with two racks, so I can cook two 12" pizzas in it. I cooked one tonight, and it was perfect. Someone said they had trouble reading the dials. Simple solution. I took a fine brush, some crimson acrylic paint, and touched the little indicater bump on the dial. Its very readable now. I like my oven, it'll cook everything I need, its not over-kill, and the Oster quality is still there! As Julia used to say, "Bon Appetit".

4.0 out of 5 stars I like it a lot!, May 28, 2011
This review is from: Oster 6081 Countertop Toaster Oven (Kitchen)
I agree with the other reviewers who felt that the metal strip in back of the handle gets too hot and it is a design flaw. Overall, I like this toaster oven because I use it as an oven as well as a toaster. It heats up fast and you need to learn to not set the temp too high for toast. I like the convection feature which browns things on all sides. I would have liked a second shelf though and I am going to order one. I like the size of it because I can fit a 12" pizza and 12x12 baking dishes into it. I think for the price, it is hard to beat.
