4.0 out of 5 stars this toaster is fine

1.0 out of 5 stars Great look - but it burned everything
I bought this toaster with high expectations since it has two long, wide slots big enough for four slices of bread, a beautiful brushed steel exterior, and a nice array of features such as a bagel toaster, frozen bread setting, lift for painless removal of bread, and cancel buttons. Shortly before it got here I noticed the review section and read all the horrible reviews for this toaster and became really concerned that the toaster wouldn't work properly. It came about six months ago, I've used it pretty much every day since then and it works just fine. No weird, uneven toast. No sticky handle. None of the scary stuff in the other reviews. Its pretty, and it works. Its a toaster.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great look - but it burned everything, May 9, 2005
This review is from: Oster 6330 Inspire 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I bought this toaster with high expectations since it has two long, wide slots big enough for four slices of bread, a beautiful brushed steel exterior, and a nice array of features such as a bagel toaster, frozen bread setting, lift for painless removal of bread, and cancel buttons. (The bagel setting "adjusts for the thickness of the bread" and it not a one-sided toasting feature.) The Oster would have been perfect for my needs - if only it toasted well.

When I first got it, I plopped a couple of frozen bagels into it - and within minutes I had to cancel the process when smoke rose from the toaster. I tried with new bagels, at a much lower setting. I had to pop up the bagels again before I set off the smoke detectors. I gave up when the bagels were still burning at 2 1/3 out of 6. Plus, the bagels didn't go all the way into the slots; the top inch wasn't even toasted despite the charred remainder. At that point, I figured it wasn't worth trying more, especially since continued use would mean that I was stuck with it. I packed it up and returned it.

A peek inside the toaster showed that not all the toasting wires turned red during toasting (whether they worked or not seemed random), which may explain why some people complain of uneven browning. The Oster is truly one of the best looking toasters on the market. The controls actually feel solid, and the blue light that illuminates to show which features are working is helpful. It's a shame that it cannot do its job. Is it really so difficult to make a good, dependable toaster?

I eventually bought the T-Fal Avante Deluxe, a better choice for me, although it, too, has its drawbacks.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good toaster when modified by user, November 30, 2010
This review is from: Oster 6330 Inspire 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
It is so unfortunate that we are all victims of the quality issues that come with globalization. I have read the complaints about uneven toasting. And they are correct. It does toast unevenly, that is due to poor quality management at the factory where the Chinese slave labors are working. But do not fear!! You can actually fix this problem yourself with some very careful operations using a very thin straight edge screw driver or an exacto-knife!! What happens is the elements need to be separated slightly from the metal sides in order to heat. You will notice the portions of element wires that are in direct contact with the sides do not light up when you power your toaster (push the knob down) What needs to be done is this: Unplug the toaster, note which elements did not have separation from the metal side plates, gently pry that portion away from the side wall giving it just a very small gap. Do this to all portions of the element wires that are not gapped away from the side walls, and then re-plug the toaster and watch the elements glow!!! It then will toast your breads, bagels, beagles or whatever you want to throw in there. It is one of the only toasters that can toast homemade bread. So I was willing to give it a go and purchased and modified mine. Works great now. They should pay me to fix em all, but I don't want to live in a slave camp to do it.......

1.0 out of 5 stars Burnt, Burnt, and Broke, April 26, 2006
This review is from: Oster 6330 Inspire 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
At first, it was ok; but, you had to watch it carefully or the toast would burn. Second of all, if you touched the outside of the toaster it would burn your fingers. The buttons didn't work. Lastly, after six months of light use it stopped working. The toaster would start toasting the item but it wouldn't stop and the cancel button didn't work either creating a fire hazard. When we did an autopsy on the toaster, the inside electrical motherboard was blackened.

In summary, based on the other reviews and personal experience, don't buy this toaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome, February 10, 2005

I received my awesome Oster Toaster at my bridal shower. My husband & I didn't "break it out" until after our wedding, but I must say it is perfect. Our kitchen theme is all stainless steel and chrome, and this toaster fits our theme nicely. Oster has great products (I had a dual-voltage mini-hair dryer that lasted me 18 years!), and this toaster didn't disappoint. It looks great, and our toast comes out perfect! I'm really fond of the little blue light, too. I feel bad for the other person who hated it, but unfortunately, sometimes there are defects. If at first you don't succeed, try, and try again! Exchange it!

We have had ours less than one year and we hate it for all the reasons everyone else have listed. It doesn't toast evenly etc. Don't buy it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke in 3 months with little use, April 14, 2005
This review is from: Oster 6330 Inspire 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Loved the look, but within very little use in 3 months, none of the buttons would work and the only way to shut the thing off was to unplug it. My Target store only stocks it in black or red and I would never want this item again, anyway. I have owned toasters that worked for almost 20 years and wish I didn't waste my time or money on this pretty toaster and got one that would work. Stuck w/ a toaster that doesn't work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad toast no more, March 29, 2008
This review is from: Oster 6330 Inspire 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Oster 6330 Inspire 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel is the highly successful and much less expensive replacement for my previous new toaster that was used about a week before the annoyance factor made it worth the price to just get rid of it. This toaster was about half the price, toasts evenly with different types of bread and lifts higher to easily remove bread. No more complaints from the family!

A great toaster. Accepts thick or thin slices, bagels too.

I like the additional settings, ( bagel, frozen )

Browns the toast evenly, and the crumb tray is easy to empty.

Have been using for several months and the stainless steel finish still looks good.

Only downside: I realize that for safety reasons you only get a short electrical cord, but this one, at 28 inches, is just a little too short unless you have an outlet right by where you want to place the appliance.

1.0 out of 5 stars DANGER FIRE HAZARD, July 20, 2007
By

This review is from: Oster 6330 Inspire 4-Slice Toaster, Brushed Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
If you own this toaster stop using in immediately. It is a serious fire hazard. It WILL fail. It's mode of failure is to lock it's self on like a run away nuclear reactor. You can not shut it off. If you're lucky you'll be able to pull the plug before it bursts into flames. In my kitchen the plug for the toaster is behind it. I had to reach through the flames to pull the plug.

Take it back, demand a refund and never buy from Oster or Sunbeam (the parent company) again.
