Utter Garbage!,
By A reader (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
We bought an Oster Beehive classic based on reviews here that said it had an ultra-strong, all-metal drive shaft. Well, we had it for a week when the "ultra-strong, all-metal drive shaft" sheared right off: it is actually all-rubber in construction: the metal does not go all the way through!I called Oster, and they agreed to send a free replacement. It arrived today (after a two week period with no blender). My kids got excited and asked for smoothies. I very carefully followed the manual's instructions, filling it with juice and adding one, tiny, pathetic half-strawberry at a time. On the last one, there was a sickening clunk, and, you guessed it! The drive shaft sheared off again! This happened five minutes ago, and I will quite definitely not buy another Oster. There was no abuse or misuse here, folks: this product may be super solid, but the weak link is the rubber transfer coupling, and it WILL break, leaving you fifty dollars poorer. Save your money.

Chops cubed ice!,
By
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
I got a blender about 3 months ago that just stopped working right. I never liked it anyway because I could never chop ice. After I searched for almost 2 hours on the net trying to find a $40~ blender that works and works well; mainly lasting more then 3 months and chop cubed ice, I finally decided on this one because the only drawback was noise. (This is an $80 blender but if you search you can get it for $46) Today I put it to the test and I'm so glad I got this excellent blender. I don't think I could get another one that would make me happier. The noise isn't anymore loud then the other one I had, and it chops ice very fine with absolutely no chunks or chips left over. One of the difficulties I had when choosing a blender was how Oster has several beehive blenders. I found that the only difference was that the controls or jug would be different. This particular one has 2 speeds and a glass jug. The way you pulse is by switching from speed one to off repeatedly. I love this jug because it's glass and keeps food flavor from transferring, and I love this one because of the way the handle is mounted on the "edge" of the square opening so that your pouring on the other "edge". It pours so much better then the ones that pour out of a side and has too wide an opening to fill a cup without spilling. One tip for crushing ice is to put all your ingredients in, blend together, and then, one by one, put the ice in the blender. You can do it while it's blending if it's not to full. The smoothie was great today, and tomorrow will be the beginning of margarita Monday's!

Same as Oster 2-speed beehive,
By
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
Just a note for the confused: it seems very clear to me, though I do not have any hard evidence, that all the beehive blenders are the same basic unit, though their attachments appear to vary. If it has 40- as the first two digits, BUY IT (and see the reviews, including mine, for the Oster 2-speed Chrome beehive blender).
