5.0 out of 5 stars Chops cubed ice!
I got a blender about 3 months ago that just stopped working right. I never liked it anyway because I could never chop ice.

After I searched for almost 2 hours on the net trying to find a $40~ blender that works and works well; mainly lasting more then 3 months and chop cubed ice, I finally decided on this one because the only drawback was noise. (This is an...

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter Garbage!
We bought an Oster Beehive classic based on reviews here that said it had an ultra-strong, all-metal drive shaft. Well, we had it for a week when the "ultra-strong, all-metal drive shaft" sheared right off: it is actually all-rubber in construction: the metal does not go all the way through!

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter Garbage!, September 24, 2004
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
We bought an Oster Beehive classic based on reviews here that said it had an ultra-strong, all-metal drive shaft. Well, we had it for a week when the "ultra-strong, all-metal drive shaft" sheared right off: it is actually all-rubber in construction: the metal does not go all the way through!

I called Oster, and they agreed to send a free replacement. It arrived today (after a two week period with no blender). My kids got excited and asked for smoothies. I very carefully followed the manual's instructions, filling it with juice and adding one, tiny, pathetic half-strawberry at a time. On the last one, there was a sickening clunk, and, you guessed it! The drive shaft sheared off again! This happened five minutes ago, and I will quite definitely not buy another Oster. There was no abuse or misuse here, folks: this product may be super solid, but the weak link is the rubber transfer coupling, and it WILL break, leaving you fifty dollars poorer.

Save your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chops cubed ice!, June 18, 2006
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
I got a blender about 3 months ago that just stopped working right. I never liked it anyway because I could never chop ice.

After I searched for almost 2 hours on the net trying to find a $40~ blender that works and works well; mainly lasting more then 3 months and chop cubed ice, I finally decided on this one because the only drawback was noise. (This is an $80 blender but if you search you can get it for $46)

Today I put it to the test and I'm so glad I got this excellent blender. I don't think I could get another one that would make me happier. The noise isn't anymore loud then the other one I had, and it chops ice very fine with absolutely no chunks or chips left over.

One of the difficulties I had when choosing a blender was how Oster has several beehive blenders. I found that the only difference was that the controls or jug would be different.

This particular one has 2 speeds and a glass jug. The way you pulse is by switching from speed one to off repeatedly. I love this jug because it's glass and keeps food flavor from transferring, and I love this one because of the way the handle is mounted on the "edge" of the square opening so that your pouring on the other "edge". It pours so much better then the ones that pour out of a side and has too wide an opening to fill a cup without spilling.

One tip for crushing ice is to put all your ingredients in, blend together, and then, one by one, put the ice in the blender. You can do it while it's blending if it's not to full.

The smoothie was great today, and tomorrow will be the beginning of margarita Monday's!

5.0 out of 5 stars Same as Oster 2-speed beehive, September 5, 2004
By
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
Just a note for the confused: it seems very clear to me, though I do not have any hard evidence, that all the beehive blenders are the same basic unit, though their attachments appear to vary. If it has 40- as the first two digits, BUY IT (and see the reviews, including mine, for the Oster 2-speed Chrome beehive blender).

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Designed Drive Shaft!, March 5, 2008
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
I must totally agree with the reviewer that called this blender "Utter Garbage".

Same thing happened. The drive shaft sheared off after filling it with water and then dropping in a piece of banana.

The really crazy thing is this exact thing has happened 3 times in less then a year. Sure they send me a new blender each time it happens but it takes 2-3 weeks to get the new blender. So no blender in the house for 2-3 weeks each time this happens.

The "Utter Garbage" reviewer left her review in Sept. 2004 and today is March 5, 2008 and it still seems to be the exact design on this model blender.

I will just keep calling for a new blender each time the new one they send me breaks, but oh what an inconvenience! Just say NO!

2.0 out of 5 stars Great looking and functional but way too loud!, January 26, 2006
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
This blender looks great on the counter and functions well; we use it daily to make smoothies and it chops ice easily.

However, I've owned six blenders and this is by far the loudest. I expect a blender to be very loud, but this is truly ear-splitting. My last blender was also an Osterizer and the noise level was much better.

We've lived with this one for about four months and have finally had enough and are going to buy a different blender. (I'm going to look at Consumer Reports and see if their reviews cover noise level!)

Perhaps I just got a bad one and most are fine, but I'd stay away from this model.

Awesome blender, a tad loud but that is ok with me. Good construction and a nice look.

1.0 out of 5 stars very dissapointed..., November 27, 2006
By
I have owned this blender for a bit over a year now.
It is extreamly noisy. The motor is not nearly as powerful as my prior cheap blender. It really struggles to mix any kind of food.

Now it started leaking. The support for this blender is horrible. There was no part # for the blade (source of leak) in the manual. I called their 800 number and a recording said they had too many calls and to call back in another time.

I will never ever buy an Oster product again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and Great Design BUT NOISY, November 26, 2006
By
I bought this a couple of years ago and love the simple design...I hate those new style blenders that have the big bottom jar. BUT the noise on the higher speed is intolerable to me....I have to cover my ears. Also, the bottom of the glass jar broke where the blade screws on so now I have to buy a replacement. But for power and ease of use and design it is great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too Tall, December 22, 2006
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
I just got this blender as a gift today. I had requested one that would fit on my counter under my cabinets (less than 13.75 inches). This one is listed on this website as being 13 inches tall, so it should have worked. But when I assembled it, it was almost 16 inches tall! I may be able to store the jar elsewhere. It all looks great, but I liked keeping my old (but recently fried) Hamilton Beach on the counter top. So, in case your space is height-challenged, be warned that this one probably won't fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars 6 years on and running strong!, November 27, 2010
This review is from: Oster 4094 Classic Osterizer Blender, Chrome (Kitchen)
I was recently in the market to replaced my Oster 4094, mainly because the blades seem to be wearing a bit and my smoothies weren't as smooth as they used to be. (I use this thing 2-4 times a week after a workout for my 'dinner' smoothie). Other then the recent issue of the blades wearing, this thing has never let me down. The 4094 has been running strong for 6 years and is still going strong! I now think I will just replace the blade with an upgraded design and see if I get get it to go another 6 years. Great product.
