Product Description

With its sleek, retro design in black with stainless-steel accents, this compact 11-cup-capacity Oster food processor not only looks good on the kitchen counter, but it also features a powerful 500-watt motor that makes quick work of large and small tasks alike - use it for mixing, chopping, slicing, shredding, blending, and much more. Simply add fresh produce to its wide-mouth opening at the top, which is wide enough to fit many whole fruits and vegetables; gently lower food towards the cutting blade with the food pusher; and turn the dial from "off" to "on" or "pulse" to set the blades spinning. Choose the stainless-steel S-shaped chopping blade or the reversible stainless-steel slicing/shredding disc for easy food prep no matter what's on the menu: pasta with a creamy pesto sauce, homemade pizza with fresh vegetables, carrot cake or zucchini bread - the options are endless. For added convenience, the appliance provides a citrus-juicer attachment for making fresh orange juice in the morning, a gourmet French Fry cutter for restaurant-style fries, an additional fine slicing/shredding disc, a dough blade, and a handy spatula for scraping the sides clean, as well as an accessory case to keep all the parts neatly stored when not in use. The food processor/juicer offers a cord-storage compartment to help keep countertops looking tidy, and its removable parts clean up easily by hand or in the dishwasher.

I was spell-bound by this machine when I first got it. It could slice things! That got old quickly, though, as it's much more of a headache to clean the entire machine than a cutting board and a knife. The pieces are not horribly difficult to clean, but they are bulky and have a few hard-to-reach areas. This is not why I'm doing this review, though.

For a whole year, it seemed to do pretty well. I was only using it for chopping parsley or making hummus, both very easy tasks. Once I started using it to make almond butter and flour, it quickly deteriorated. While I was making mayonnaise, the sound of the processor changed. I started to smell burning plastic. When I stopped the machine, it was smoking slightly (There is no place for the smoke to really exhaust itself, so it was sort of leaking out of the engine slowly) and When I moved the processor, I noticed some weird coloring on the counter top. It was metal powder. I checked the Oster website, and it looks like they don't even sell food processors anymore.

One of my favorite things about this blender is the storage case that was included with it and that it is built perfectly for all the attachments. (Plan on posting pictures of this later on) Also love the simplistic design for the control. There are two settings, one that leaves the blender on and one that is used as a pulse and stops after you stop twisting. The other problem faced by the other reviewer with having trouble attaching the bowl to the base is solved rather easily. The processor comes with a safety feature (one I find nice to have) that doesn't allow you to start the machine with the lid not attached to the bowl. The only problem this creates is it does not allow you to attach the bowl with the lid on it. This to me is not a big problem at all seeing that once you attach the bowl you must have the lid off anyways to attach the blade or other attachments. I plan on updating this later on down the road after I have used it more.

This is our first food processor and are pretty impressed. We purchased it for several reasons:

1. Brand name
2. All the different blades it came with
3. Wide-mouth opening
4. Price

After much research and reading a gazillion reviews on units ranging from $40 to $400, we went with this Oster and are not disappointed all at (We have had it now for three months and use it at least 3-4 times a week). We have used all the attachments and they all seem to work pretty well. The motor is super powerful and gets the job done - a touch noisy, but that is a necessarily evil when grinding stuff up! Controls are simple and easy to use. Wide mouth works great for everything we have thrown in there. Bowl attaches easily and firmly into place - getting it off is a little tough, but in the most minor of ways. The unit has great safety devices - will not operate if the bowl AND lid are properly in place AND it will brake itself to a stop if you open it while it is turned on (yes, I did a little bit of experimenting with it!).

The only gripe is the gap between the ram-rod in the opening and the blade itself - it always leaves a little unsliced cheese or whatever between them. Oh well!

Overall, bang for the buck, A+! It is definitely not the best one out there, but for the budget I will take my $300 savings and buy something delicious to grind up in it! Would highly recommend it at this point.
A bonus - the cool storage container for all the blades, very nice!

I purchased this one after my Cooks f.p. broke for the second time. I took a long time researching f.p. and went with the Oster because of quality reviews and price. I didn't want to go 'cheap' again, you do get what you pay for. I also didn't want to pay really high prices like with Kitchenaide. We are a large family and I needed a larger processor to meet our needs. I also use my processor a LOT. One of my most used kitchen tools. The oster is a lot better then the Cooks f.p. I had been using. Food does get stuck in the lid behind the chute, but that sounds like almost all f.p. Other then that, it's a great product. Very happy with it. Based on just that, I would have given it 4 stars. Because of the customer service I am giving it 5 stars! Im not sure how, but a small piece (the slide release button) broke off. With out that, the processor does not work. It did take a couple tries to get through to customer service. The customer service rep was easy to understand (a big bonus) and very nice. My product was still under warrenty, but they no longer had the part that I needed. So they are going to send me out a new processor! Very pleased with the customer service and the fact the company stands behind their stuff!

We just bought this machine last week. While it is powerful, tonight, while attempting to slice some CoJack cheese, one of the blade brackets broke OFF. The chunk of cheese was small enough to fit fine within the food chute...so it was not a case of operator error.

The slicing function seems to tear up most of the items you are trying to slice more so than actually do neat slices. I agree with the previous posters on here who mention the gap and that this gap makes it such that food gets sucked into the vortex between the food chute exit and the blade. Not good.

The other issue is the fact there is only one speed...I believe this machine would have worked better if they could have added a slower speed function.

The storage case for all the parts is very nice, however. Overall, I'm kind of disappointed....thankfully they issue you TWO shredder/slicer blades, so I still have one good blade left.

Don't buy this machine if you have the money to spend on one of the other better brands.
