Customer Reviews

While I'm convinced nothing will compare to my original Sunbeam mixer, this one gets the job done, and quite well.

I have an old Oster Kitchen Center (transmission is finally wearing out in it) and I expected this to be the workhorse the old Oster is known for, but sadly it isn't.

The bowl is not fixed to the base it rotates freely, what makes it rotate is the action of the bitters against the sides bowl.

I bought this mixer sometime in mid-October at Boscovs kind of on a whim because it was on sale. My original mixer (An older sunbeam model i bought used) which i had for years had died and out of desperation I replaced it with a horrible piece of crap (because that was what was in stock locally at the time and I NEEDED a mixer to finish a cake order) So I was always on the look out to replace that thing.

While I'm convinced nothing will compare to my original Sunbeam mixer, this one gets the job done, and quite well. I typically use stand mixers for making cake frosting, which is what this one is primarily used for - although we make mashed potatoes in it from time to time and it's whisked up some beautiful angel food cake as well.

The construction of the machine is great, as it is die cast metal, the black parts at the head have a thin rubber type coating which just adds to grip if you happen to have butter or the like on your hands.

-While the bowl position is adjustable, I find it difficult to adjust, my original mixer just had a lever that allowed you to push and lock the bowl into position, With this mixer, the turn table locks into one of two holes in the base to set the bowl position, trying to remove the turn table from the hole it's in requires some force and I'm always worried I'm just going to break it because the turn table is one of the few plastic parts on this machine.

-A neat thing about this mixer is the beater holes are color coated. The attachment hole to the left has a small green dot about the size of an eraser head near it, while the other has no marking at all. Attachments that are required to be put in a certain way have a color coded plastic skirting on the shaft, one being green, and the other grey.

The Oster FPSTSM5101 stand mixer is a powerful nice looking machine, but it does a little better than what a hand held mixer does. Mixes well dry ingredients, fluid mixtures and cuts butter into flower. Comes with two wire whisks, two bitters, and two "hooks" (shaped like cork screws) these last do not work well with bread dough, specially dryer dough for bread. The bowl is large and easy to add to. Unfortunately the slowest speed is too fast still, when trying to mix dough it starts shaking and even holding the bowl and rotating it, it still shakes a lot. The bowl is not fixed to the base it rotates freely, what makes it rotate is the action of the bitters against the sides bowl. Overall I would recommended for someone who bakes cakes and cookies, but not bread.

I like the mixer but wish the bowl would sit more firmly or securely on base. When mixing a thick dough the bowl wobbles around a bit. .

This was a gift for my daughter. She liked it a lot. She had a little trouble in the beginning. The base where the bowl sat was a little wobbly. She got it working correctly and baked lotsd of cookies.

This was a very good investment! I tell you, I'm an avid baker you name it and I can make it and this product cuts my time almost in half. The convenience of having it going will you just pour in the ingredients wow, I don't know why I hadn't gotten one before, but I can tell you that I love it, it works great for me!

It is about two months after I bought this stand mixer and the beaters will no longer stay inside their holes. (The ones that spin them around) One of the beaters keeps falling out and knocking against. This is the same for the dough hooks and whisks that are included.

It is a cute mixer, looked nice in the kitchen, and I was counting on the Oster product success of past years - but this was disappointing. If you are just doing cake mixes, cookies or egg whites, it worked great! But when I gave it some serious stuff like bread making, it couldn't hold up! It vibrated fiercely across the counter, the head and beaters heated up so much, I needed pot holders to remove the dough hooks - it just didn't have the strength. For light stuff it was okay. I have an old Oster Kitchen Center (transmission is finally wearing out in it) and I expected this to be the workhorse the old Oster is known for, but sadly it isn't. I returned mine.

This was a gift to my sister, and it had settings for large and small bowls, but contained only one bowl. This was very disappointing. Nevertheless, she seems happy with it. I just wish it had the small bowl. I don't know if it is too late to ask for it or not.
