5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Trimmer, November 4, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oster Power Line Clipper 76076-010 (Health and Beauty)
I've had my Oster for several months now, and I have to say that it was 100% worth the cost of admission. This is a solid state trimmer, not like one of those "groomers" that you bought to trim your beard back in the '90s. This is truly a professional grade trimmer. It is wieghty, and has heft, but is not "heavy." You can feel that it is well engineered, and you realize that whenever you use it; whenever you clean the head or snap on a trimmer guide.

The thing I like? It has a toggle switch at the bottom, and not one of those cheesy slide-switches or buttons. Snap, it's on, snap, it's off. Something about it just says "sturdy", like an implement made in America in the 1950's which just screams "throw a brick at me... I'll still work just fine afterward."

The trimmer is easy to use, comfortable in the hand, and works wonders with sideburns, moustaches, beards, and the big mop on my head. Every spring, I go to the barber, and I always ask for a "high & tight" haircut. I seem to always ask to have more taken off, and I always seem to be dissatisfied when I leave the barbershop. This summer, I gave myself a cut (yes, I did it myself!) using the most generous guides first and moving my way down to the finer ones, and I was perfectly happy with my haircut afterwards. I did ask my wife to neaten things out in the back, and she did a great job.

In short, I'd give this trimmer a "6" if I could, but there are only five in the ratings. I take good care of it after each use because this is a tool I want to have for years to come, and I'm confident it will be around for at least that long.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wrong style clipper sent, January 6, 2012

I ordered the hair clipper that was shown in the ad, with the blades offered. a Classic 76, was sent with one different blade. A 000, instead of a 0000, blade. So they are the same clipper, I wanted the color, (Black), that was shown. Plus I was charged for shipping. So that is what you will get. If your Not OK with it? Just buy the (RED) Classic"76", with a #1, & a #000, Blade on Amozon for $114.00, with free shipping, instead. Save your Buck. It's really the same hair clipped. SW

5.0 out of 5 stars Will last a lifetime, August 3, 2011

I've been cutting my own hair with these for about ten years now. They have performed flawlessly. I have very thick course hair that the bargain store pivot motor clippers would choke on every time and end up pulling a patch of hair out.. These Oster clippers have a huge rotory motor which is far more powerful that the pivot motor types and because of its design it will provide a full blade stroke no matter what the load, ensuring it keeps cutting.
After reading some other reviews and seeing mention of that ball bearing port and putting oil in there, it runs significantly cooler (oops!!! Scott is right about the user manual, its rather lacking in this department)
I would also argue that these clippers do get messy with the blade oil, but if you properly oil the cheapo clippers they get messy too. Actually, a word of advice before dropping $100+ on these clippers, try a dab of oil on the blade of your old cheapo clippers before tossing them, you would be surprised how much that helps.
Blade changes on these Oster clippers is a snap, literally. No screws, no latches. Just fold the blade back, slide off and slide the other one on and fold it down.
I would also highly recommend the Oster comb set that goes with this clipper. [...] They are by far the best combs I've used on a set of clippers, but then again, my experience is limited to the bargain store clippers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oster power line "76" clippers, September 11, 2010

3rd excellent set of clippers that I got from the oster company... Blade capatabilty between the oster detachable blade system, and this system are the same so if you already have blades for the classic 76, no need to get new ones with these, plus they come w/ the 00000 blade for those close skin fades. Definitely a piece of machinery that will last and last...

4.0 out of 5 stars good not great, November 27, 2009

I need to qualify my review by saying that I only use this to cut my own hair and I only use it about once a month or so. I bought this clipper in hopes that it would be the best in it's class. It is solidly built and hefty in your hand. I like that it feels solid and it will probably last a long time if I do the required maintenance. This is where I have a bit of a problem. It requires you to remove a cover plate by unscrewing two tiny screws. below the plate is what looks like the inner workings of a clock covered in white grease like Vaseline. You must replace and remove the old grease with new grease (supplied with purchase) at some interval which is not clear since the instruction pamphlet that comes with this tool is vague and brief. It will depend on your usage but it would be nice to have some sort of guideline perhaps after x amount of hours of use or something since everyone will use it differently. I guess you just have to have a sense of when it needs to be changed. I couldn't even find anything on the internet that really addresses this issue. You also have to put a drop of a special (supplied) oil both on the blades and into a small entry portal through a ball bearing by pushing down on the steel ball bearing. Too much is bad not enough is bad. I suppose that after I have mastered the technique for doing this messy maintenance procedure I will have a tool that will last a lifetime, but I am not entirely sure I want to do all that. So to bottom line this. Great, professional level hair clipper that will perform well in the right hands probably forever, but more maintenance than I prefer to deal with. Also, this is the same as the red classic 76 except of course for the black housing color and the supplied blades. This model has 0000 blade which cuts very close which is good for necklines and beard edges. The classic 76 has a 000 which is of course not quite as close. I can not compare since I don't have that one.

Does what it says and keeps on going. Strong motor and cuts (no pun intended) clipping hair in half the time. Just watch out for the exhaust vent. Gets a little hot...

This is my 2nd pair of the Power Line clippers. I have been very happy with them. My first pair would still be working if my son hadn't taken them apart to clean and went over board just alittle. I used my first pair for 6 yrs. Had to replace the brushes 2 times but the part is only like 1.50. I hade gone through serveral pairs of wahls, forfex and Andis clipper before I bought these. THey cut really well and last. well worth the price. I cut hair at a Great Clips so they get a work out.
