Pretty good coffee maker (4+ stars),
By Debbie Lee Wesselmann (the Lehigh Valley, PA) - See all my reviews (TOP 50 REVIEWER) (VINE VOICE) (2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Oster RDXSS43 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
This Oster coffee maker has all the premiums features -- programmable brew time, steel mesh reusable filter, easy-to-read clock, brew pause, "aroma" setting for stronger coffee, and automatic shut-off. The clock, which glows blue, is easy to read in both daylight and dark. Unlike some models, which have the water level mark visible through a gauge on the outside, this one uses a step system that shows inside the reservoir how much water has been added. The "inside only" view of water level allows for a cleaner, all-stainless look on the outside, but some people may not like to judge either by the carafe markings or by looking inside.
Pros: -- It looks nice on the counter, especially with other stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. -- The features all work well, without any complicated steps or procedures. -- The included, removable basket is deep enough to minimize overflow when brewing 12 cups. -- Smooth exterior surface and easily removed basket makes it easy to clean. -- Heating element turns off automatically after two hours to avoid burning coffee or leaving it on all day. (See cons as well.) -- Very easy to program -- Coffee brews hot and stays hot. Cons: -- Reservoir lid is large/deep, and you have to pull it out from under cabinets to fill it. Do not purchase if you don't have enough counter space/depth to pull it out, or if you cannot position it free from overhangs. -- Carafe lid is difficult to remove -- The heating element turns off automatically after two hours, which may be too soon for some people. -- Brew time is somewhat slow, even without selecting the aroma feature. -- Since Oster isn't a big name in coffee makers, obtaining replacement carafes over time may be more difficult. I can't comment on longevity; however, people who live in hard water areas and who don't use a water softener should descale with vinegar on a regular basis. When I lived in such a situation, my coffee makers of varying brands seldom lasted longer than four years, even with monthly cleaning. Although the Oster is a great option, I prefer the Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker. The difference is that the Oster is often discounted, which takes it to a lower price point where it becomes a real value. Shop around for the best prices. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann

I've had this coffee maker for about 4 months now. I really like it. I love the mesh filter and honestly don't understand why all coffee makers don't have them. "Wait, we can very simply and easily replace hundreds of pieces of litter per year by making something that will cost the consumer about what it would cost to buy a pack of filters? Naahhhh why bother?"
I love the aroma feature and I love the auto feature. It's very easy to set and it's nice to wake up to coffee in the mornings. It is a bit of a chore to fill the water. I have to pull it all the way out from under my cabinets and pull the lid all the way open. I do find filling it with the carafe a bit clumsy at times and often drip water through the filter. It's easier to fill it with a measuring cup. Overall, I like this coffee maker a lot, it looks stylish and does it's job. Hoping it will hold up for a long time.

Best Lil Pot I have ever had,
By Texas Rose "Texas Rose" (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oster RDXSS43 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I was on Amazon looking for a new coffee pot when daughter was at Target and spotted this one. I read Amazon customer reviews while she was on the phone and told her to buy this one. 44.00 was a great price at Amazon but Target had it on sale for 29.99. Let me tell you folks, I have had this pot 5 days now and it makes great coffee. I do use the Mileta brown cone filters as they suggest. My counter top is such that it has room for this pot not sitting under a cabinet. Yes, it is tall. AND, I use less coffee than I did in my Mr. Coffee Pots that I have used for 30 years. Mr. Coffee pots last us less than 2 years...)-: I pray this Oster will last longer. Oh...I did have a Crusinart one time that lasted 18 months. That pot costs 80.00. No more expensive pots in my house.

This review is from: Oster RDXSS43 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I loved this coffee maker even though it leaked when you wanted to sneak a cup. This morning it just would not work. I only had this for about 6 months. I would have recomended this until today.

Well we needed a new coffee maker so I went to Sams. It was very slow making a 10 cup pot,"20 Min". I decided to just deal with it since they only seem to last 12-14months. I only make 1 pot aday. After 5 months to the day I turned it on, took care of the kids came back for that much needed cup to find it empty. The lights came on but thats about it.The only pos was it made a hot cup of coffee. My advice stay away...

Coffee maker is perfect,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Oster RDXSS43 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I bought this coffee maker after having three Cuisanarts that broke within the first two years. This one looks very nice and it is not a big unit so it does not take up much counter space. The pot is easy to pour, absolutely no spills and pouring into the water container is easy too, since it has a wide opening. The display is easy to read and the buttons clearly indicate their purpose. They are push buttons and not "turn" buttons which is what broken on my Cuisanart. It does alarm when the coffee is complete, which is not a problem and most coffee makers do this. My only grievance it that is is sold cheaper at Sam's Club. The filter is cylinder shape, and it makes a tasty cup of coffee. I just recommend cleaning the unit and parts before the first use.

Excellent coffee maker for the moderate price,

I am very pleased with this programmable coffee maker. Easy to program, this feature works very well. The coffee is hot after being brewed and the warmer keeps it hot. The machine isn't oversized like many coffee makers and looks very sleek on the counter. This brews a very good cup of coffee.

Have been through dozens of coffee makers. The pause and pour broke within the first two days. The carafe pours coffee all over the counter. Takes forever to brew, even after cleaning. Definitely got what I paid for. Still looking.

Messy,
This review is from: Oster RDXSS43 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
My major complaint with this coffee maker is the carafe. Unless you pour very slowly, it drips everywhere. I'm not a fan of the cone-shaped filter basket either, as it can tip over. I've had houseguests try to make coffee and, while it isn't complicated to use, it is not as intuitive as other coffee makers I've owned.

This coffeemaker made great tasting coffee - but the heating element died after only three months. Before then, it had a habit of turning itself off on a whim. This was a waste of money! I'll be replacing with another brand.
