4.0 out of 5 stars Useful for Reluctant Readers., July 11, 2006
This review is from: Ostriches (Desert Animals) (Hardcover)
I've made use of this book a couple of times over the course of the last month for the summer school class I'm teaching. The students are far older than the author's intended audience, but they greatly enjoyed the pictures within. Generally, they are fascinated by the animals of Africa. Books like this one are particularly helpful when instructing children far below grade level who are sensitive about being insulted by "kidsy" looking texts. Jack and Jill won't cut it, but you can get tons of mileage from photographic representations of animals. I recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, December 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ostriches (Desert Animals) (Hardcover)
Based on the website and the price, this book looked like it was going to be a nice size and filled with pictures of Ostriches. However, it is a book that is really written for a 1st grader. The pictures are nice, but the writing is VERY basic. It has less pages than one would even expect from a Golden Book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ostroviches, March 24, 2010
This review is from: Ostriches (Desert Animals) (Hardcover)
Ostriches were voted "most pretty bird" by Russian people a few years back. Unfortunately, the Ostrich is not even a bird since it can't fly. I still like Ostriches even though they have no brain stem in their head. Good book for most readers under 65. Also, give the Ostrich egg a try, they're as big as a watermelon and feed 22 people.
