Product Description

The Original, Effortless Weed Puller: Grandpa's Weeder. Grandpa's pride and joy was his weed puller! A simple lever (and a sore back) was his inspiration for inventing this tool in 1913. He wanted a way to pull out weeds quickly and easily without bending, kneeling, or pulling and by golly, this tool did the trick! Using this tool was so effortless he was often seen using it in his Sunday best!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works fine, skimpy handle October 13, 2010
Worked great for a while until the handle broke, Lifetime warranty is great. Finding who to contact about the warranty, is not very easy. Once you call them, you find that they use an answering machine to field calls. Left a message, no response. Not so impressed. If you don't break the handle or the lever, I guess that you are ok!
Here ya go, so you don't have to search it out.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this tool! April 13, 2008
I bought this tool for dandelions, and I have found it to be the best dandelion puller ever. It works on weeds that grow from a central point. By positioning the prongs over the very center of the dandelion, and shoving the tool into the ground with a little pedal provided for that purpose, you then give the tool a sideways twist, and the dandelion pops right out, held within the prongs. It doesn't matter if it's in tall grass or not; the only thing that's essential is that it be centered over the weed. Of course, the ground has to be reasonably soft, but that would be true for any such tool.
This tool really saves my back, because you don't have to been over alot. Mind is sturdily made, and has lasted for several years of use. I would recommend this tool to anyone!

5.0 out of 5 stars The same quality as the one I bought in 1952 September 3, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
Oh the one I bought in 1952 is still in good working order, it's just that I have to go and retrieve it from my neighbor every time I need to use it. This one I bought for my neighbor. This is truly a great weed puller and it still is of the same high quality materials and workmanship it has been over the years. The price of course has gone up since 1952, but it still is a good bang for the buck in 2009. I would highly recommend this item to anyone for its ease of use, and quality.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as sturdy as it looks June 20, 2010
Being made of wood and iron, this thing looks like it could never break. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving, as the iron lever that makes this weeder work broke off after only a few hundred small weeds were pulled. And my little wife used it exclusively, and she is far too physically weak to "abuse" it. It is also not a very effective weeder -- very slow to use -- so I prefer the "Yard Butler TT-1W Garden Terra Weeder" type (but one made of hard cast iron, instead of malleable stamped steel like the Yard Butler's).

5.0 out of 5 stars Grandpa's Weeder is Great January 7, 2010
We just moved into a new house and the yard was sodded but contained a lot of weeds, mainly thistles and dandelions, which hadn't been killed by the weed & feed fertilizer our lawn service used. I have a bad knee and getting down on my hands and knees to pull weeds was not something I wanted to do especially with thistles which can be a little rough on your hands. I looked in all the stores in the area for a long handled weeder but being off-season I could not find one. I found the Grandpa's Weeder on the Internet and it looked like a better option than just the forked long handled dandelion weeder so I gave it a try. I was not disappointed, the Grandpa's Weeder is well constructed and very simple to use -- all the directions are on the handle. The hardest part of using the tool is to make sure you place it over the center of the root, which requires a little practice until you figure out where the roots of various types of weeds grow. It pulls the weeds up by the roots but leaves a small divot in the lawn, which you don't even see after a day or two. It seems to works best when the ground is slightly moist. It works well to pull small to medium sized weeds, I'm not sure how it would work on very large weeds or small trees. It certainly saved my knee and back from a lot of pain and suffering. I'm thinking of buying one for each of my three kids.

You won't go wrong buying this tool -- good quality and simple design.

3.0 out of 5 stars Solid built but maybe not suitable in many situations September 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase
Have been using this weeder for a while. It is obviously well built and easy to use. At this price, it is OK.

The problem is the tips of this weeder are fork like. the pair of fingers have wide gaps on each and they do not grab thin weed stems well. It usually does not directly clam any weed stem thinner than a pencil (that's the case of most weeds like dandelions). Instead, it just grabs bunch of lawn grass around together with soil and the weed in the center then pulls everything out. For young/thin weeds I would go for chemicals or alternate tool.

3.0 out of 5 stars Oswego Grandpa's Weeder June 28, 2011

Works fairly well. Gets dirt caught between tongs for each weed removed. Tongs could be further apart and longer. Disappointed that it was not manufactured in the U.S.A.

only issue is the amount of surrounding turf it takes out, but it does get a good amount of the root.
