5.0 out of 5 stars "Othello" review, February 8, 2000

This review is from: Othello (1995 Film) (Audio CD)
No one seems to know about this album. I don't think most folks even know that there was a "Othello" film production starring Lawrence Fishburn and Kenneth Branaugh. The film was alright but this album is an absolute treasure. It is stunningly romantic in the deepest, darkest way. This album takes you on a terrifying journey through a tangled medieval romance, from the lustful exotic dances to the mournful, soaring string theme. Track 20 will break your heart every time! The sense of transportation you get from this score is uncanny, you feel like you are walking though the streets of an ancient Moorish city, full of mystery and deciets. Applause to Charlie Mole. One warning though, this album is ENTIRELY in a brooding and minor mode. For those of you who only walk the sunny side of the street, steer clear. For everyone else who likes to indulge their dark side once and a while, this one is a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Othello: One Of My Favorite Sound Tracks, November 24, 2000
This review is from: Othello (1995 Film) (Audio CD)
I have yet to view the 1995 Laurence Fishburne and Kenneth Branagh interpretation of "Othello." Who is the composer, Charlie Mole? I have never heard of his name before or since the release of this film. Is he British or American? I haven't a clue about his nationality, age, or anything else that might be perceived as pertinent. Nonetheless, Mole's score is one of my favorites of all time. I purchased a copy for mere pennies from a store that was glad to find a buyer. It turned out to be worth the top price lesser artists take for granted. Mole's score seems appropriate for Shakespeare's "Othello." A previous Amazon community reviewer described the music as brooding. It is indeed not a score composed for those desiring light and joyful sounds. I might add, though, that Charlie Mole's work also reminds one of heroism and great adventure. In other words, this music stands alone regardless of whether the movie is a masterpiece or not. The Academy Awards committee often ignores the work of an artist if the film failed to generate large audiences. Life is not always fair. Charlie Mole deserved far more than a few congratulatory words from a reviewer such as myself.

What music am I listening to while I write this review? Charlie Mole's "Othello" of course. The reader should purchase a copy as soon as possible. I believe that you will also treasure this beautiful music score.
