WHICH YAYA WILL WIN OUT?,
By Sesho "www.sesho.libsyn.com" (Pasadena, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Othello 6 (Othello (Del Rey)) (Paperback)
Volume 6 of Othello mainly concerns the trio of Moriyama, Yaya, and his ex-girlfriend Shuko, who interrupts a romantic moment as Moriyama is about to confess his feelings to Yaya. While accepting that Moriyama likes Yaya, Shuko hopes to take advantage of the fact that he is kinda wishy-washy and plans to make Moriyama hers! Shuko has another advantage. She knows that Yaya and Nana are the same person and wonders why Moriyama would want to date such a psycho. When Yaya is confronted with irrefutable evidence that she has a split personality, will she be able to handle it, or will the shock allow Nana to take control of her life forever?
The characters in Othello are very interesting and you want things to work out for Yaya, so hopefully, she will be able to strike a balance with Nana and incorporate both facets of her personality into one soul. I don't particularly care for Ikezawa's art that much. Her characters all pretty much look the same and a lack of backgrounds make her style seem barren and lazy. If this series would have gone on a few more volumes it would have went downhill. Thankfully, this is the next to last installment and the series can go out while it's still on top. Empathy is what saved this volume for me. The recognition that sometimes you are so afraid of asserting yourself in this world that you have to wear a mask to get by. Also, the element of danger in this volume made an impact because we don't know if Yaya will ever find the strength to fight her way through Nana's front. Good book. |
