Editorial Reviews

Australia released, PAL/Region 4 DVD: it WILL NOT play on standard US DVD player. You need multi-region PAL/NTSC DVD player to view it in USA/Canada: LANGUAGES: English ( Dolby Digital 2.0 ), SYNOPSIS: Australian college students struggle to deal with school, romance, and life in general in first-time director Emma-Kate Croghan's comedy. The film's focus falls on cinema studies major Mia (France O'Connor) and her roommate Alice (Alice Garner), both of whom find themselves in romantic flux. Alice is torn between the cocky Ari (Matthew Dyktynski) and the shy but loyal Michael (Matt Day), while Mia is in the midst of a messy break-up with her girlfriend Danni (Radha Mitchell). Further complicating Mia's life are her unfinished thesis (on the feminist implications of Doris Day films) and her struggles with the college administration, which provide the opportunity for gentle satire of academia and the frustrations of bureaucracy. The characters deal with their troubles through articulate, questioning dialogue, and Croghan punctuates the film with title screens featuring famous quotes and with attempts to liven up the relatively familiar story with occasional forays into art-film stylization. Most critics viewed the film as a promising debut, with likable characters and a charming romantic tone, if an inconsequential narrative.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mitchell and O'Connor together--who could ask for more?, October 5, 2000
By A Customer
The serious talent of gorgeous up-and-comers Radha Mitchell (High Art, Pitch Black) and Frances O'Connor (Mansfield Park, Kiss or Kill) shines through this sweet film about not taking yourself too seriously. Despite the film's easy-going, day-in-the-life style, the thoughtfulness and spark of these two young actresses gives the audience something more to hold onto besides just witticisms passed between characters, something that makes you smile all over the admittedly predictable ending. A word of caution--give the film a good ten minutes chance. It takes a little while to get off the ground, but Mia (O'Connor) and Danni (Mitchell) make it worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great independent depicting real life, August 29, 1999
By A Customer
I enjoyed this film for the folowing reasons: it's independent which for me means that they spent more time on character development than flashy clothes and scenery, and being a lesbian in college as well I could relate to Mia and Danni and especially loved how their sexuality wasn't even an issue! I'm looking forward to more great films like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, light hearted comedy, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
A day in the life of five Austrailian college students, each plowing through parts of their lives. This is a short movie and very light -- nothing deep to digest. Radha Mitchell, from High Art (another wonderful film!!) plays Danni, and since she is one of my favourites, I couldn't miss it. I highly recommend this film to anyone that wants to smile at the misadventures or quirks of early twentysomething life.
