5.0 out of 5 stars Mitchell and O'Connor together--who could ask for more?
The serious talent of gorgeous up-and-comers Radha Mitchell (High Art, Pitch Black) and Frances O'Connor (Mansfield Park, Kiss or Kill) shines through this sweet film about not taking yourself too seriously. Despite the film's easy-going, day-in-the-life style, the thoughtfulness and spark of these two young actresses gives the audience something more to hold onto...

1.0 out of 5 stars Weak love circle and bad plot line
It's a rather ridiculous love circle involving a cute goofy guy, a brooding philosophical male prostitute, and two other college girls in search of a roommate that always ends up going nowhere...during the last five minutes of the movie, the characters experience the "joy" of quite predictably finding their ideal mates.

Personally, I found one of the...

The serious talent of gorgeous up-and-comers Radha Mitchell (High Art, Pitch Black) and Frances O'Connor (Mansfield Park, Kiss or Kill) shines through this sweet film about not taking yourself too seriously. Despite the film's easy-going, day-in-the-life style, the thoughtfulness and spark of these two young actresses gives the audience something more to hold onto besides just witticisms passed between characters, something that makes you smile all over the admittedly predictable ending. A word of caution--give the film a good ten minutes chance. It takes a little while to get off the ground, but Mia (O'Connor) and Danni (Mitchell) make it worth the wait.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great independent depicting real life, August 29, 1999
By A Customer
I enjoyed this film for the folowing reasons: it's independent which for me means that they spent more time on character development than flashy clothes and scenery, and being a lesbian in college as well I could relate to Mia and Danni and especially loved how their sexuality wasn't even an issue! I'm looking forward to more great films like this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable, light hearted comedy, February 3, 1999
By A Customer
A day in the life of five Austrailian college students, each plowing through parts of their lives. This is a short movie and very light -- nothing deep to digest. Radha Mitchell, from High Art (another wonderful film!!) plays Danni, and since she is one of my favourites, I couldn't miss it. I highly recommend this film to anyone that wants to smile at the misadventures or quirks of early twentysomething life.

5.0 out of 5 stars college life made funny.................., July 16, 2004
By
Kate C. (Lansing, MI USA) - See all my reviews
the scenes where Frances O'Connor is walking back and forth across campus from department to department, trying to get her transfer slip signed by the appropriate people in the appropriate sequence is still so funny in it's realism i laugh every time. instead of gaining 10 pounds as a freshman i lost 30 because of all the leg-work college demands in their paper work.

add into the mix of this wonderfully enjoyable movie are the searches for true love (always good for a laugh), hiding from thesis supervisors, and trying to find suitable living conditions. Matt Day is great, as always, in his role as the campus geek who's got a crush on the coffee-shop girl, talking to himself in the mirror "be confident, i'm confident, i'm oozing confidence, confidence coming out of every pore...."

a great movie to watch with your old college buddies!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable light comedy., August 13, 1999
For anyone who remembers drop-add days at college this movie is a must! A refreshing change from big budget Hollywood. Very mature in dealing with sexual preference issues, in fact . . .it's a non-issue, which is fabulous. I loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars oh my goddess, yes!, January 16, 2000
what a movie! of all the indie flix ive seen, this is by far the best. not only are the actors able to hold their own, but the cinematography is highly spiffed and the story is oh so tight. if you've not seen it yet, SEE IT! if nothing else, it is an amusing way to spend 79 minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this movie, March 8, 1999
By A Customer
I really enjoyed this movie and for only costing $36 000 to make it was better then most million dollar summer blockbuster movies. My favorite story line was Dani and Mia. I enjoyed watching them work through their problems. Which were mostly caused by Mia's fear of commitment.

4.0 out of 5 stars Remember its a first for the director and is very low budget, February 18, 1999
By A Customer
Coming from the same place this movie was filmed I thought it tapped perfectly into the university lifestyle of those 20-somethings that experience the joys and pitfalls of share houses, parties, changing majors and changing girlfriends/boyfriends. I think that this movie sure isn't for everyone but its important to remember what each of the characters represent and the emotions they display throughout the film. I admit that the acting is average in stages and the sound is very poor but remember this is a first for Emma-Kate and it was made on an extremely low budget.

If your wondering what it would be like to spend a year or two studying in Australia at a university level, then I would surely recommend this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, and intelligent film., February 1, 1999
By A Customer
The best film about intelligent young adults since Metropolitain. The characters' problems, more psychological than real (i.e. phd thesis on Doris Day and the "problems" it creates) parody my college friends in an uncanny way. The dialogue is superb as is the portrayal of college life in the ninties. If you like films driven by dialogue not action, subtle humour not buffoonery, then you gotta see this masterpiece.
