More About the Author

I'm a native San Franciscan - a rare breed nowadays; a former policeman, fireman, licensed private investigator for more than twenty years, and past Vice President of the Private Eye Writers of America.
Married to Shirley, the love of my life, also a San Francisco native, we have two sons: Frank and Steve, and a grandson, Jake.
When I was struggling to get my first mansucript finished, a friendly, established author encourged me, saying that my background should be helpful, and then he gave me this piece of advice: "Write what you know, and fake the rest."
I've been writing ever since. My first books were all first person private eye adventures, including ten in the Nick Polo series, and most of the action took place in San Francisco.
The following eight thrillers moved around from London, to Madrid, Russia, etc., but usually had a scene or two in San Francisco (write what you know).
Now I'm back in the city with a new series, stating with JIGSAW, featureing an offbeat hero, Mr. Carroll Quint, and entertainment editor for the San Francisco Bulletin.
I'm presently working on STILL SHOT, the second in the Carroll Quint series.
Thanks for reading about me here, and I hope you enjoy my novels.

This review is from: The Other Eye (Paperback)
Mark Martel is a very successful jewel thief. He is engaged to a beautiful woman, lives in a nice upscale home, and seems to have everything he wants in life. However, his perfect world crashes after delivering a $200,000 painting to a buyer, Don Genero. His client's son tries to kill Mark and his girlfriend. The assailant carries out his assault, believing that Mark is dead in the river. Mark survives, but loses an eye. He turns state's evidence and enters the witness protection program as Mark Marre, vintner extraordinaire.

Don Genero believes that Mark killed his son and puts a $500,000 contract on him. Meanwhile, a series of jewel thefts occur that has Mark's signature modus operand all over them. Insurance worker Lisa Cole tracks down Mark, believing he committed the crimes. He offers her proof he is innocent, but now the Don and his henchmen are closing in on Mark, ready to even the score.

This novel is a pulse-pounding thriller that keeps the audience interested from the first page to the last due to the protagonist. Mark is a likable crook who overcomes his adversary to make a new comfortable life for himself. Although his own actions led to his present troubles, readers will feel sympathy towards Mark. The plot is nicely executed especially since all indications are that the thugs will triumph. The creative ending will leave the audience wanting the hero to make future appearances.
