A textbook I actually enjoyed!,
By Vanessa Dwelle (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Other Fifty Percent: Multicultural Perspectives on Gender Relations (Paperback)
A very insightful look at various gender relations in different cultural and economic settings. From a tribal community in Africa to the Los Angeles Police Force, there is a wide range of studies on how the sexes interact and rely on each other for survival. As the roles of men and women in society are constantly evolving, it is interesting to see how these roles function in different environments. This gives us an idea of where we've been, how we are and where we should be headed in the future. This book was an excellent textbook for an Anthropology class on Sex and Gender at Santa Monica College I had about five years ago. Being a poor college student I regretfully sold back this book for spending money. After all this time I look forward to reaquainting myself with this intriguing spectrum of perspectives.
