Book Description

September 1, 2006
What happens when the bride suddenly realizes, only hours after her dream wedding, that she doesn¿t love the groom? The Other Man is a novel inspired by The Jennifer Wilbanks Story, the runaway bride who duped authorities into thinking she was kidnapped in order to escape the pressures of a wedding only two days away (MSNBC, May 6, 2005). In his thrilling debut novel, author Marlon LaSean Sanders pens the story of Freedom Dandridge, a systems analyst, and newly married bride who has a change of heart all too late. What started out as a rebound relationship is now a marriage. She is thrust into a future with Vance Dandridge, an overly ambitious advertising exec, and husband she doesn¿t love. When evidence surfaces showing that Vance has been having an affair all along, it gives Freedom the perfect reason to run from her fragile marriage, and into the arms of Boney McIntyre, the jealous, possessive, ex-convict boyfriend she carries a torch for. Freedom struggles to keep her affair secret, becoming torn between two men. Boney, the one she loves, must prove himself before Freedom gives her heart to him again, and Vance, the one she thought she loved, makes a complete turnaround, doing all the right things, making it difficult for her to walk away. Worlds collide when Freedom must choose between a conservative lifestyle with Vance, and her dangerously illicit, bad-girl sexcapades with Boney¿before someone chooses for her¿all set in the backdrop of Memphis, Tennessee, a southern city rich with Blues, Black History, and relevance to African-Americans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very intriguing debut!!, May 3, 2007
This review is from: The Other Man (Paperback)
Newlywed Vance and Freedom Dandridge appear to have it all - good jobs, Vance's family, and each other. On their honeymoon, Vance is in pure bliss, yet at the same time all Freedom can think of is how to get out of the rebound relationship that somehow evolved into marriage. As time goes on, Freedom accepts her role as Vance's wife and even begins to enjoy it. Until she finds evidence that he is cheating on her. Seeking revenge, she engages in a series of sexscapades with Boney, her ex boyfriend. When the old flames spark with Boney, Freedom is torn between her bad girl past and her stable lifestyle with Vance. As an added element, Freedom struggles with demons from her childhood, including her mother and stepfather.

Will Boney's old ways remind her why she left him and make her realize how much she has at home? Or will Vance's affair be more than Freedom can handle?

Marlon LaSean Sanders' debut thriller, The Other Man, is a must read. Marlon's unique writing style took me several chapters to get used to, but once I got used to his style I was hooked. There are several twists in this thriller that will leave you shocked and satisfied.
