Emile's stories center much on French Nobles of the time. The good, bad and the ugly. This story has it all. It starts with the emblezzlement of millions by a "Scrooge" like clerk and it becomes a winding story of who's who and intrigue. If you like mysteries, you should read Emile's novels. Some of them require a certain degree on concentration as he tells his stories but the characters are all well-written and the stories interesting. The stories are written in a time frame normally centering some years after the French Revolution.

Good story line and interesting characters. Great description of place and time - I could easily visualize mid-19th century Paris.

Good translation from the French, but there were occasional syntax hiccups I had to re-read.
