5.0 out of 5 stars You HAVE to read this book!!!
This was my favorite of Joan Lowery Nixion's books! From the moment I started reading it I was hooked. It has a mix of romance and spine tingling- suspense. A real page turner. If you've never read one of her books this is the one to start out with.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dark cheese
This book was pretty good, considering the (small) amount of mystery/suspense stories I've read. BUT it was terribly CHEESY!!! Sometimes I'd wish Nixon had detailed a bit more on some scenes, like the ending!-one minute Stacy is in the middle of a crisis, the next she's okay. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you ask me! Anyway, to start the story Stacy McAdams...

5.0 out of 5 stars A SUSPENSFUL HORROR STORY..., March 21, 2002
A Kid's Review
This book was the best, right from the beginning I loved it. Joan Lowery Nixon's second book I have ever read is better then the first one. I definently recommend this book to others!!!! But, this book IS mostly horror, so I would say that if you get scared easily or don't like things involving murder, guns, and stalking then I DON'T recommend this to you.
This book is about a seventeen year old girl named Stacy, who has just woken from a four year coma to find out that she isn't thirteen anymore. Also that her mother was murdered. She saw the murderer's face that also shot her, but she just can't remember it. After a reporter comes in, she starts to think that what will happen if the murderer finds her before she remembers the face? Things are hard to get used to when you are used to being thirteen. Her friend helps her with makeup and she starts to think about the four grades she has missed and will somehow have to make up. Soon she is offered a baby-sitting job by her next door neighbor, her sister doesn't agree, but she says yes anyway. When baby-sitting, one of the girls comes down stairs after using the restroom and says that she has seen... whoops I am getting carried away. I don't want to ruin the WHOLE story for you. So in order to find out what she sees (which is scary by the way) you will have to read this book on your own, to find out also who is Stacy's mom's murderer, and will he find her before she remembers his face. READ IT, I'M TELLING YOU IT IS A GREAT BOOK!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One Suspenseful Story, October 30, 2000
By A Customer
The book I read was Other Side of Dark by Joan Lowery Nixon. The story is about Stacy McAdams, a 17 year old girl who just awakes from a coma for 4 long, years. She was brought to the hospital at the age of 13, after being shot by her Mother's murderer. After awaking, she is confronted by the cops that she is the only eye witness of the murderer. Now her job is to remember the face of the guy who was on her back porch, the guy with the gun in his hand that shot her and killed her Mother; she remembers it all, but the guy's face is unclear. The big question is will she remember the face of her Mother's murderer before the killer finds her again? It is a very suspenseful story, it will keep you turning the pages to see clues that will eventually lead up to what will happen.

Sometimes I'd wish Nixon had detailed a bit more on some scenes, like the ending!-one minute Stacy is in the middle of a crisis, the next she's okay. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense if you ask me! Anyway, to start the story Stacy McAdams awakes from a coma that has lasted four years as the result of a gunshot wound. She is seventeen years old on the outside, but her mind is still that of a thirteen year old! Stacy also finds out that her sister is married and pregnant, her best friend Jan has a new best friend and wears make-up, and her mother was killed by the same person who injured herself. Who shot Stacy and her mom? Stacy is an eyewitness, a famous "Sleeping Beauty", and is being stalked by a very cute senior-or so it seems. Jarrod, an older kid with yellow eyes, suddenly jolts Stacy's memory-as the murderer!!! Is Stacy right in her accusations, that Jarrod is the killer, or is this mysterious, question-avoiding man Jeff the culprit?

But shortly before Stacy leavs for the party, she gets a mysterious phone call from an unknown person about the party. This makes Stacy a little nervous about going, but Jan convinces her. When it is over and when she is talking to some reporters, Jarrod squeezes his way towards Stacy and mumbels something. But the only thing she understand is, "my friend". This gets Stacy extreamly nervous. After this inncident, Stacy wants to find out who some of Jarrods friends are. She finds out that her good freind and they guy she likes, Jeff is his friend. Now, Stacy is a little suspicious around Jeff. One day, Jarrod is finally allowed to go to court, or it is kind of a court. Here, the attorneys will go over the facts and see if he gets out on bail. While in the ourt room, Jarrod as a seizure and is rushed to the hospital where he will be guarded. But one day, while Stacy is getting ready to go to Jan's house 9she is already an hour late), she hears that Jarrod has escaped. Then, she hears a ratteling noise at the garage door. It must be Jarrod. She runs into the backyard and up into an old tree house. Here, she stays put and hopes Jarrod will go away. But, he eventually goes outside. He knows Stacy is up there. But Stacy has a trick up her sleeve. She pushes down the tree house on top of JArrod and pins him down with the wood. Then, Stacy grabs his gun and aims it at him. The, Jeff comes and takes the gun. It turns out that Jeff is 23 and a cop. Finally, the cops come and arrest Jarrod and bring him to the hospital. Stacy and Jeff fall in love. AW(...)! WHAT A HAPPY ENDING!

My opinion on this book is that it is a great mystery. I kept wondering what was going to happen next and i couldnt wait to find out. I gave this book 5 stars and recomend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars O_o, January 5, 2004

Ever wondered what it would be like going into a time machine into the future? Well that's what happened to 13 year-old Stacy McAdams, though instead of using a time machine, she was shot into a 4 year coma by an unknown murderer. When she finally awoke from her seemingly perpetual slumber, her whole life and even herself had changed, literally. Her friends have matured, complete with a totally different style and attitude. Her sister has married without her as the maid of honor and just recently became pregnant. As she tries to straighten these overwhelming thoughts and emotions, Stacey is soon presented with the perfect thing to top it all off: her mother was murdered, the killer is still at large, and Stacey was the only witness to see her mother`s assassinator. The only catch: she can't seem to remember his face! Fueling with determination to solve this ambiguous and malicious crime, Stacey must race against the clock to try and figure out who really was the cruel man that ended her mother's life and flipped her own life around... before that man goes off and finishes the job...
I thought this book had a very creative plot and twist to it. It has everything a good book needs: a load of suspense, a handful of adventure, some specks of romance, and a touch of humor here and there. Although the ending WAS kind of predictable, I still love the book anyways.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great!, August 20, 2001
The Other Side of Dark was one of the first Joan Lowery Nixon books I ever read and now I own 4 of them. It's a great book, and is never slow. From the first page, you are hooked and won't be able to put the book down. There's two different plots, in a way-Stacey adjusting to being 17 instead of 13, and Stacey trying to remember and solve her mother's murder. While reading the book, you become so close to Stacey, you begin to think like her. Stacey is an easy character to understand and you sympathize with her as she remembers more bits and pieces of her mother's murder. She is simple and likeable. As a result, you end up loving this book. Your friends will love it, too, like mine did, so I guarantee that you read it!
