5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Extraodinary Book -- Read it

2.0 out of 5 stars Just okay...
I didn't care for this author's style of writing. The story didn't flow in my opinion because of how many references she used. It's like her actual story could have been written in one chapter, but in order to make it long enough to publish, she added reference after reference and other people's ideas and writings. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one, is...

I decided I had to voice my opinion after reading the other customer notes on this book. I've studied the Prices' work for years, and this book is as authentic as they come. For persons with little spiritual discernment, it may seem far-fetched. For those who have studied the spiritual journey and have a sense of what is possible, the book resonates with honesty, commitment and truth.

As for classifying the Price's work as new-age, I would take issue with that. I would suggest rather than their work has been a logical offshoot of transcendentalism and a retelling of the old mystery school truths which go back to the hermetic teachings and beyond.

But rather than try to debunk what has been said, I would recommend you read this book, and decide for yourself. Particularly if you have made a commitment to the spiritual journey, this book contains some important messages.

The Prices are not an ordinary couple; they have been studying and teaching spiritual truths for decades. They are scholarly, yet much of their material comes from direct revelation which has been astonishing in its impact on the world. Their contribution of the world healing meditation had millions meditating on world healing in the '80s, and is still going on as an important worldwide healing activity today.

If you have sincerely worked with some of the modern spiritual teachings; e.g., ACIM, Power vs. Force, Goldsmith, Unity, Religious Science, Wayne Dyer, Eckhart Tolle, etc., I would highly recommend this book for you. If you are enmeshed with orthodox religious belief systems, this book probably is not for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful & Profound, October 11, 2006

This review is from: The Other Side of Death (Paperback)
After dying of a major heart attack, the author Jan Price experienced a taste of heaven through her near-death-experience. In "The Other Side of Death", Mrs. Price eloquently describes what she experienced - providing wonderful messages for us all - as well as discussing the similar experiences of others.

If you are at all interested in spirituality & NDE's, I would highly recommend this book. It's an easy to read, insightful book that will warm your heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too "fluffy" for me, December 1, 2009
This review is from: The Other Side of Death (Paperback)
First I need to start this review off by saying that I'm a total believer in the afterlife, spirits ect.
So I started reading this book with high hopes but became disappointed.

Mrs. Price seems like a very nice , sincere lady and I have had many , many supernatural experiences in my own life for which I have been disbelieved and mocked, so in general, I would never dare to try to deny somebody else's experience(because in the end if you weren't there or aren't that person, how do you know?)

But she wrote about experiencing and believing a lot of things that I simply do not-There is no hell,God never judges, there is no punishment for anything, animals are not only in the afterlife, but speak to you using words and human ideas and thought concepts, ect.

Now, could I be wrong and could all these things be true?
Sure, its a possibility. I cannot offer hard, indisputable proof of my own beliefs or disprove anyone elses beyond a reasonable doubt but because those beliefs/experiences of hers run directly contrary to my own I believe that stopped me from relating to this book on a deep level and getting out of it what I'd hoped to.

2.0 out of 5 stars Just okay..., January 21, 2012

I didn't care for this author's style of writing. The story didn't flow in my opinion because of how many references she used. It's like her actual story could have been written in one chapter, but in order to make it long enough to publish, she added reference after reference and other people's ideas and writings. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one, is because I feel that what she experienced is true and she is sharing truth. Other than that, nothing new and it seriously could've been written in one chapter. So disappointing - especially since I spent $13 to read it... Bug.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book, September 12, 2009
This review is from: The Other Side of Death (Paperback)
This book is very rich. I could not put it down. I was so happy to read it since it brought a beautiful and heavenly vision of what heaven will be. I felt all of it to be true of what I already believe in my heart about the afterlife. Incredible true story. Life changing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most enchanting, encouraging, and loving....., October 26, 1999

I read this book about two years ago, it still remains one of the most powerful books I have ever encountered; and it will remain so for the rest of my life. I thank you Jan.

I lost my very dear friend, 'Q-Dee', a most charming little 5 lb black male poodle about six years ago. Q-Dee was with me for about 5 years. The name 'Q-Dee', in the Chinese language, means 'Let-it-be little brother'. I named him that because he had a major heart problem when I got him from a breeder who was supposed to sell me a healthy dog. Well, I was cheated on that. But that was another story. Every time I held Q-Dee was a celebration. I was very connected to Q-Dee. He was a charmer, I often told Q-Dee. Finally I had to give him up to the Humane Society, because of his heart problem. I cried and prayed often for Q-Dee, because I missed him so. One day I bought this book, wanting to read about near death experience. To my surprise Jan actually talked about her dog! This pleasant surprise uplifted me totally..... I no longer felt sad, or felt bad for my giving up of (my guilt) Q-Dee.

Quite often, I would ask my 6 year old teacup size Yorkie, who was a baby while Q-Dee was around, "Did Q-Dee come to visit you today?" and I'd smile trying to look for an answer from Little Girl (my Yorkie). Each time I was hoping Little Girl would look at me and say "Yes, woof woof." But, she just looked at me as if she did not know what I was talking about; and that was so cute in her own innocent way. The important thing to me is that (1) I know Q-Dee is well, healthy, happy and knows so much, and (2) that he can come to visit us whenever he wants, protecting Little Girl, because little Girl is so tiny.

I thank you so much, Jan, again .....

1.0 out of 5 stars Not credible, shameless new-age hucksterism, May 15, 2002
This review is from: The Other Side of Death (Paperback)
If Steve and Edie wrote a book about a near-death experience, this would be it. I have read and appreciated many books on the subject, and I have met several NDE survivors whose stories are moving and credible, but I didn't believe this one. John and Jan Price were professional New-Agers before Jan's heart attack, and everything they have written here sounds as if they made it up. Jan Price says she died for a few minutes during a medical emergency, but her recounting of what happened on the other side sounds phony. A good example of her repetitious prose is: "GODLOVE. It fills and sustains me. It is me. It is all, for it is all. I am that I am. No inner. No outer. Just IS. I am aware of all that is. I am all that is," ad nauseam. And her husband's many overblown flowery references to "this woman I love" and "the earthiness of a woman who greatly appreciates sensuous pleasures" made me want to gag. I tried unsuccessfully to believe his account of watching Jan ascend from her body "as a materialization in full form, complete with flowing green gown," while the spirit of the couple's recently departed dog stood guard by the EMS stretcher. I bought this book hoping for a meaningful story about one person's experience with the miracles of life beyond death. As I read it I had the growing conviction I had been duped by this couple who exploited Jan's medical crisis to launch a profitible new component to their New-Age snake-oil business.

PS: John and Jan's sychophants must not like this review, as they keep bombarding it with "unhelpful" votes. But as I said, I *wanted* to like the book, it was the authors themselves who convinced me their work is not credible.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Other Side Of Death, January 25, 2006

This review is from: The Other Side of Death (Paperback)
This was the biggest waste of money and the very worst book I have ever read!!! Obviously, this woman (Jan Price, the author) does not believe in or has never read the "Holy Bible". The junk she writes about is more demonic than anything. Sounds like someone on drugs. She speaks of her 1 day old baby that died. However, in this so-called place that she claims she went to, in her NDE, she never once mentions seeing her baby, yet she says she saw firends and family, and even her little doggy. But why not her baby? She also mentions in this book 3 different times how pretty and beautiful she thinks she is. How conceited! And I couldn't tell you how many times she claims she has been reincarnated. What a dreamer! Actually this book, in my opinion is a nightmare. Trust me....Don't waste your time or money.
