Down here on the farm.,
This review is from: Other Side (Audio CD)
The Other Side is the fourth album of the German Farmer Boys. It is not easy to put a label on the band. The guitars are groovy and sometimes sound like bands like Pantera and Prong, although they do not sound as heavy as those bands. The vocals are both melodic and melancholic. The songs are vocal orientated, short and catchy, but there are some interesting instrumental parts. If I would label it, I would say the band plays modern sounding metal with an alternative touch. Because the theme of the album is movies, there are musically a few hints to films and series. The production is excellent and with a little more support from their record label this band can become very popular outside Germany. I highly recommend this album.

Great Gothipop Metal!,

I have to start by saying that I'm a very open minded metal head. I like everything from Iron Maiden to Emperor or HIM to Neurosis. So, I like the Farmer Boys - The Other Side because it's got some heavy riffs when needed and just basicaly some catchy vocal/riff hooks. If your a fan of the German/Finish Goth Metal (i.e. Evereve/HIM) scene you'll probably like this. If they were from the states they probably would be bigger with too much radio play, so I'm glad they're not. It's on Nuclear Blast records, so they're are not like the majority of heavier bands on their roster. So, listen with a open-mind.

German rock cool, shocker!,

These guys have the daftest name in rock, don't they? Even stupider once you hear this mature, pounding, wonderfully cool album.
Clean and dynamic production, intelligent lyrics, strong choruses follow tuneful verses; masterful performances all round. Think Smashing Pumpkins mixed with latter day, heavier Porcupine Tree. Buy two because you will want to tell people about them.

Having heard prior albums, I didn't really know what to expect of the Farmer Boys for this title. The band has obviously taken a softer approach, more delicate at times in some songs but I do not think that is a negative thing. In fact, I appreciate it all the more because it feels as if this album is a maturity of a sort, not only of the artists' style but of their composition and outlook.
Take this however you want, but I find this to be a good album for the style that the Farmer Boys present and the way it was organized.

Pretty good!,

This album is pretty good. The guitars are heavy, the vocals are nice. No kind of range, really, but they're still easy on the ears. There's a nice opening song, "For The World To Sing". And there are tons of good songs along the way. There's only one song I don't really like. It is "In My Darkest Hour" if I'm not mistaken. I'm not a big fan of the effect used in the verse while he is singing. It is a little beep beep noise that is just kind of annoying. But overall, this is a good album, definitely worth buying. You're guaranteed to like it. I compare it to...well...maybe Katatonia or something of that genre. It almost sometimes has a beatles-like melody, so..yeah. It is pretty much goth metal but it is very good!

blaaaaargh!,

having never written a review before and after hearing this trite i felt compelled to express my disappointment with this album. after seeing it in the metal section of (an unnamed p2p source) i thought to myself "self, with a name like Farmer Boys, maybe you can expect some good 'ole southern drinkin metal, along the vein of Pantera or something". boy was i wrong! this is nothing but a poor pathetic attempt at crappy pop metal. but its BAD pop metal. don't get me wrong, i AM one of those metal purists who hates anything mainstream and yadda yadda yadda, but i will give something a chance if it has something unique to it. this does not. lame boring riffs, uninspired lyrics, nothing original to it at all. this is the absolute bottom of the food chain in terms of mainstream mall metal. its not worth the time downloading let alone buying it. and where the hell does the name Farmer Boys fit in? theres NOTHING farmer about them!!!!
