In this book, Virginia Fugate sets out to provide biblical insight to Christian women about the importance of biblical womanhood in an effort to counter prevailing ideologies coming from secular feminism.
Virginia Fugate personally accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized into the Body of Christ at Reinhardt Bible Church in Garland, Texas in 1968. She and her husband, J. Richard, have attended a Bible-teaching church in each city where God called them to minister: Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, and Sacramento. Most of their pastors have been graduates of Dallas Theological Seminary. In 1975, while Mr. Fugate was Business Manager of A.C.E., they were led to start a pilot Christian school in Garland, Texas, based on their experience of home schooling their own three children for two previous years. In 1979, Mr. Fugate founded the Foundation for Biblical Research (FBR) "to determine the one true meaning of Scripture based on honest research and a scientifically sound system of hermeneutics." All of his and Virginia's books are based on that research.
Virginia read Christian books on marriage and collected notes on Biblical womanhood for fifteen years. She found that most of these books reflected a psychological approach to the husband/wife relationship and provided recommendations about how a wife could manipulate her husband to achieve her own goals. She could not see how this advice was Biblical or would bring any glory to God. Finally, my precious and shy wife gave up on hoping someone else had already written what she believed was needed, overcame her insecurities, and put her own studies in writing. (She equated the experience with having a baby.) Not only has my wife studied and taught Biblical womanhood, she is a qualified, older woman with the credentials to teach the younger women. In our fifty-plus years of marriage, she has faithfully lived up to all the truths presented in her books, as she came to know each of them. She patiently lived as my helpmate for our first twenty difficult years while I searched for my own manhood. I know of no other woman of whom I could better testify, "Ginny is truly a Biblical woman who is living successfully in today's world." My prayer for each reader is that you might experience the relationship my wife and I now possess, which is largely due to her having lived most of her life according to the principles set forth in her books.
