My friend and I learned together that we must submit to our husband's leadership with a good attitude, THEN TRUST GOD TO PROVIDE FOR US, because God is always faithful. --Personal letter from Becca
Virginia Fugate is a wise "older woman" from whom the rest of us can glean much useful advice. Mrs. Fugate uses her experience as a wife of over fifty years and knowledge of Biblical teaching to help readers understand God's purpose for women. Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of the character of a Biblical woman, the relationship with one's spouse, and how to integrate Biblical womanhood in our lives today. I would encourage this as a gift for any young lady preparing for marriage and also married women who would like to learn more God's plan for their lives.
There are going to be many people who do not like this book because it is very convicting. I do not agree with every single thing in the book. For example, I do think it's possible that some men will never learn from their mistakes, but I think Mrs. Fugate's teaching is Biblically sound. --Sonya Haskins "The Homeschool Advocate" (Jonesborough, TN USA)

She read book after book, hoping someone else had already done what she believed was needed, but to no avail. More and more, she found that Christian books on marriage reflect a psychological approach to the husband/wife relationship. In other words, they promoted people-managing techniques on how to get others to do what you want. Some of these techniques are just good ole' common sense like, You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar. Others are unabashed recommendations on how to manipulate your husband to achieve your own goals. Understanding your husband psychologically and how to better communicate to him are valuable for interpersonal relationships. Nevertheless, this approach does not deal with who you are or how God's desires you to live your life.
Not only has my wife studied and taught Biblical womanhood, she is a qualified, older woman with the credentials to teach the younger women. In our fifty-plus years of marriage, she has faithfully lived up to all the truths presented in her books, as she came to know each of them. She patiently lived as my helpmate for our first twenty difficult years while I searched for my manhood.
I know of no other woman of whom I could better testify that Ginny is truly a Biblical woman who is living successfully in today's world. My prayer for each reader is that you might experience the relationship my wife and I now possess, which is largely due to her having lived most of her life according to the principals set forth in this book.
J. Richard Fugate
My fervent prayer is for each woman who reads this book. May she be refreshed, encouraged, and stimulated to a renewed eagerness for God's truths. The results of her hearing and obeying God will be a heightened sense of self-worth, a reinvigorated marriage, and a strengthened family. For these things may she give honor and praise to God alone. I pray further that her life will present to the world a praiseworthy example of God's design for womanhood. This prayer is offered in Jesus' name and for His glory.

Scripturally and spiritually accurate,

This review is from: The Other Side of the Garden : Biblical Womanhood for Today's World (Paperback)
This is a very important book for modern western women to read. Not many will, and many who do WILL be offended by it. THe authors tone and style are not at all offensive, quite the contrary she is gentle and honest at the same time. But the message she presents goes againts everything Western media teaches about women and sadly what vast numbers of church attendee's have accepted. That said, if you are willing to look at men and women differently than your 21st century upbringing has taught you to, then you will most certainly learn something. She presents a picture of a woman as terribly important in society because of her influence on her husband and her children. She shows how adhering to the Biblical model for families is actually a great freedom for women, not the bondage feminists would lead you to believe. In regard to the previous review expressing her concern about yeilding authority to an irresponsible husband, I do not believe that what occured in her home was at all what the author was allowing for. The intent was that we are to submit as long as they do not ask us to do something immoral or illegal. In such a case, a woman is supposed to take the matter to her local congregation and elders, and ask them to deal with her husband. I believe it is unfair to blame Fugate for that situation. in addition Fugate does not express anything that contradicts scripture as a previous reviewer implied. Every point is carefully based upon scripture (exegesis). This is different from using scripture to make your point (eisigesis). After reading her book I would encourage the reader to check every scripture reference, every precept and every doctrine against scripture. After such an exploration you still feel you must reject her position, then do so carefully. The writting is very clear and easy to read, the layout is open, and each main point is highlighted.

What an eye opener!,

I found this book challenging. Many times, as I considered the authors thoughts and experiences, I realized that much of my view of myself as a woman needed to be challenged. My perception of marriage has been shaped and molded by outside influences, not by the bible. As a Christian, I needed to be shaken up. Virginia Fugate presents this in a way that helps you take a hard look at where you stand and why you're there. I appreciate her presentation and that she has spent much of her adult life working to develop her walk as a woman who truly wants to live as God created her to.

This book is well written, logical, and well supported with biblical references. It is not "politically correct" but rather "biblically correct" and I highly recommend it to anyone (woman or man) who is married or contemplating marriage.
