5.0 out of 5 stars Freedom from bitterness, hurt, resentment, hatred
This book is better than 30 years of counseling and my old Zoloft prescription. At last, someone has explained exactly what I'm feeling-exactly what we're ALL feeling-and given us logical, step-by-step ways to overcome this tremendous burden of anger, aka frustration, disappointment, injustice, etc. I don't have to be upset all the time anymore! Freedom!

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre self help book
I give this book two stars for effort and its Christian perspective, but he reverts to the "forgive at all costs" mentality. Some things aren't forgivable, nor should people be expected to do so. This may lay an additional burden on people who are suffering, trivializes their injuries, and it gives the abuser an out. Still, a decent effort. Might be helpful in addition to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Life-changing, July 3, 2004

This book was one of those "aha" moments in my life. I had read the Five Love Languages first, and it saved my marriage, so I decided to try this one so I knew how to deal with anger after my partner's infidelity. Well, I learned so much about life, myself, and everyone around me that it really did change my entire outlook on life. Now I can see the motivations behind other peoples' actions, and react in a more positive, healthy, and constructive way. Most of all, though, this book taught me how to truly forgive things that, after years of counseling, I thought were unforgivable. I was finally able to let go of all those things that had weighed so heavily upon me my entire life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lessons learned can help future generations!, October 27, 2000

As a wife and a parent of two young children,I have become increasingly aware of my inability to handle anger and extremely stressful situations with my family. This book helped me realize that perhaps my parents and grandparents were never taught how to deal with anger either. I decided I do not want to repeat those same mistakes. This book helps you realize that perhaps one of the greatest gifts you can give your spouse and children is the ability to manage your anger appropriately and teach your children the same skills. I think it is a great new family legacy that I can pass on to my children!

I have to say that this book is a great book. If a person reads this book and can't relate the material to their own lives, they couldn't be human. Dr. Chapman once again has hit the nail on the head with this book. Practical insights and easy to understand stories help to make this book a clear winner. Everybody I know, including myself, will have lots to learn and lots to practice after digesting the information in this text. This book is not only for those of us who are married, but anybody who wants to get along better with anybody they have a relationship with, whether it is a parent, child, friend, or even an enemy.

This book is breath of fresh concept on an age old conflict. Gary Chapman strips away the guilt about anger allows the reader express it and understand it. An excellent book for anyone who either has anger problems or deals regularly with someone who does.

5.0 out of 5 stars Religious but provides almost scientific breakdown of anger, May 26, 2006
This review is from: The Other Side of Love: Handling Anger in a Godly Way (Paperback)
I'm not a very religious person but his book broke down anger and all the aspects about anger in such a way that I feel much better. I know I can now work to control my anger and not let my anger control me. While reading this book I even had opportunities to try his suggestions and ideas on my own - anger toward my children, my wife and myself. I was amazed how well it worked. There were still times I slipped, but I was able to use his ideas, see where I went wrong and make a conscious decision to correct it next time. So don't laugh at me if you go past my garage and hear me say out loud, to myself, as my van runs over the basketball, again, "I'm angry".

I highly recommend this book. When I first picked it up I was really skeptical and was expecting cheesy theories that aren't practical. Instead, this book is incredibly insightful, with down to earth examples that readers can easily relate to. The author is compassionate towards those who have difficulty with anger and does not belittle them like some other authors/counselors do. He provides a framework for understanding and dealing with anger and it's precursors and consequneces. Some of these ideas will be profound and revelatory for people, but this book was worded clearly and quick read.

This is the best book I've read on anger management and teaching your children how to manage their anger. Gary Chapman's insight on why God created anger and what purpose it serves is very interesting. He provides summaries of each chapter, so you can review the main points without re-reading the entire book. This book gave me a new perspective.

This book was excellent. It helped me to evaluate my anger and provided useful tips to react differently and get better results. Anger is an issure that has popped up while parenting tirelessly on a daily basis. It helped to break down why I was experiencing anger. I love all of Gary Chapman's books and have found them very useful.
