5.0 out of 5 stars A remarkable and unusual thrill-ride of a read!, January 20, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: The Other Side (Paperback)
FROM THE BACK COVER OF THE BOOK:

One of the most respected names to emerge from the Small (Underground) Press in the 1990's was, unequivocally, Marcus D. Gregio. "The Other Side" clearly displays the versatility of this accomplished writer of horror, science fiction, and speculative fiction. Contained in this extraordinary work are fifteen stylized stories that frolic with the demons of dark reality, taunting them ominously. Lovers of television shows like The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits will dive into this collection with appreciative ecstasy.

For those who question the world around them and who look to read material that will enlighten their view of themselves and the world, "The Other Side" delivers admirably. Be forewarned... this book holds no punches, makes no excuses, but does tell a tale of truth--of a warped world and its inhabitants--which is sometimes painful, sometimes funny, occasionally shocking, and often times surreal.

Although each of the fifteen stories, in "The Other Side," easily stands on its own, the book is also a wonderful collective unit with a definite theme. As the author states in his preface, "obviousness is often times the deception." The theme that emerges is that deception is a facade and it must be lived in and worked through to discover--what else--the other side.

Just when one begins to understand the world that has been created by the author, a schizophrenic terror infects the pages of "The Other Side" with reckless abandon. "The Other Side" is not reckless, though. It is a well-constructed book that reflects the stirring impetus to triumph that human beings face each day. And Gregio takes those stirrings, in his unique way, splatters them on the page, and shouts out a release from any mundane life by providing examples of life and death and all that is connected with existence.

"The Other Side" is a remarkable and unusual thrill-ride of a read. A must for the fan of human nature, it is a 20th century commentary for the 21st century--darkly seductive and definitely enlightening!

IF YOU CAN RELATE TO ANYTHING IN THAT DESCRIPTION, THIS BOOK IS DEFINITELY WORTH THE PRICE AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT.
