Just be thankful...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Other Side of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
Just be thankful you all didn't waste your money on the 2 cd set entitled A Saucerful of Pink... it has this cd (the one being reviewed here) and a 2nd disc of the same stuff... I agree for the most part that this compilation should have never been made, but, what do I know? I am just an Average Joe-Pink Floyd fanatic/musician/consumer...

The Dark Side Of The Floyd,

when i first spotted the disc "Saucerful of Pink", i was VERY skeptical. having been a floyd fan for the vast majority of my life, and owning bootlegs, and very rare items of the floyd, i felt that any attempts to "industrialize" the great band would have been laughable and an affront to fans. however, i gave the disc a listen to and was blown away. The cover of "Jugband" would have sent poor ol' Syd down the lysergic spiral once again. Mindwarpdrugrap, fnord. Calling this a "goth" floyd is greatly misleading. "industrial" would be a lot closer to the truth. i throughly enjoy this disc AND am a huge floyd freak! If you love the music of the band AND the evolution into which it is growing, buy this album. i wonder if they'll be another -- Skinny Puppy wasn't on here.

Worth it for a few tracks,

A few tracks on this album are fantastic. Psychick TV's rendition of "Set the Controls" is stunning, and I hesitate to say it but I think Sky Cries Mary's "Wots... Uh The Deal" is better than the original. Some other tracks are definitely worth their salt. It seems the best ones are those that don't stray too awfully far from the original. Others take too much artistic license and we end up with a bunch of techno noise that sounds vaguely like a Pink Floyd song. The CD is a must for any fan of Floyd or the bands making an appearance here, but don't expect to listen to it a lot.

a collection of great dance songs perhaps?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Other Side of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
When I first heard about this cd, I thought it may be interesting. I liked Alien Sex Fiend's version of "Echoes" and Nik Turner's version of "Careful With That Axe Eugene". Maybe even The Electric Hellfire Club's rendition of "Lucifer Sam". The rest of this cd is lame. Din's version of "On The Run" doesn't even sound like anybody did a cover of it. It sounds like they just added the drum beat, kind of like the dance version of that Shania Twain song. Don't even bother with this cd unless you're already a fan of the bands on it. There's a better Pink Floyd tribute out there called The Moon Revisited with much better bands on it. Still, nothing is better than the real thing.

Save Your Money,

For the same price you could get the new Tin Huey album and be much happier. They don't do tributes to Pink Floyd - they ARE Pink Floyd - re-incarnate.

There's a better deal out there,
This review is from: Other Side of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
This album is an abridgement of a 1995 album called "A Saucerful of Pink," which I bought for less. Some of these tracks are interesting, some are just silly. They left out my favorite, Ron Geesin's original "To Roger Waters, Wherever You Are."

ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE,

Did any of the members of Pink Floyd actually allow this cd to be produced? It truly is a joke. If you don't believe me just listen to the sample above of "learning to fly." You'll just burst out laughing.(By the way I wanted to give this cd zero stars but the only choices are 1-5 stars).

I have to disagree,
By A Customer
This review is from: Other Side of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
I must disagree with the people that have spoken before me. Although I never expected this to be near as good as the original songs (it isn't) it's just a whole another look at these great floyd songs. When I first listened to this CD I hated it, but gradually I have started liking it more and more. The album is titled The Other side of pink, which it exactly is. It is a whole new view of pink floyd songs, and although many don't like it, I have to say that after having listened to it numerous times, I started to like this, although I liked it in a completely different way than the original pink floyd songs. The old songs are still here. This is just a new view, that I would recommend to anyone who likes to hear something new and progressive...

The Worst Album to have the words Pink Floyd on the cover,
By Matthew B Fairbanks (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Other Side of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
I just purchased this album and it is the worst CD I have ever bought. I am a huge Pink Floyd fan and these songs just suck. One of these Days is one of the best songs and this new version sounds nothing like it. And Echoes is my favorite song. Not this version. If you like Pink Floyd, don't buy this CD, buy Meddle or any other original floyd CD.

So what if Pink Floyd isn't Goth?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Other Side of Pink: Tribute to Pink Floyd (Audio CD)
At first I thought that Goth bands covering Pink Floyd songs just wouldn't work. But once I listened to Alien Sex Fiend's version of "Echoes" and Electric Hellfire Club's rendition of "Lucifer Sam," I changed my mind. The fresh outlook the bands gave these songs blew my mind. You don't cover a song so that you sound identical to it - you cover it so that you can add a new sound to it. Not every song is great, of course - I was especially disappointed with the cover of "Wot's...Uh The Deal," but overall this album was a worthwhile investment to me.
