4.0 out of 5 stars believe it or not, it's actually worth your money
Sometimes you buy cds and end up listening to one or two tracks and the rest is just blah. Well, when i bought The Other Two And You years ago, i STILL listen to the ENTIRE cd to this very day. I initially bought this for the 2 AMAZING singles "Tasty fish" and "Selfish" which were dance club staples in every San Francisco DJ's record stash circa 1995. You may not know the...

3.0 out of 5 stars Half good pop music, half mediocre filler
This album has some very good songs; the melodic synthesizers on the wonderful "Selfish" are irresistably catchy, and "Tasty Fish" and "Movin' On" are also quite good. Gilbert and Morris only had half an album's worth of songs though; there's a lot of filler late in the CD, pointless instrumental tracks that hardly pass as songs. If you...

You may not know the titles, once you hear the melody--it'll all come back to you. The crowd used to go CRAZY at "Selfish." True, the other tracks may not be as memorable, but guess what---they aren't [that bad] either. I can leave this entire cd on and listen enjoyably without rushing to hit 'fwd'. Practically every song is danceable so if you are worried about slow/ambient tracks, dont worry--it's all uptempo, fast, and electro-pulsey. Overall, i'd classify The Other Two as "New Order Lite"--actually more like OMD than anything New Order, which is the test of whether you'll like this cd.

It's still one of my most favorite cds. May not be groundbreaking now, but now in 2001 it STILL sounds fresh and modern--pretty amazing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Half good pop music, half mediocre filler, August 10, 2002

This album has some very good songs; the melodic synthesizers on the wonderful "Selfish" are irresistably catchy, and "Tasty Fish" and "Movin' On" are also quite good. Gilbert and Morris only had half an album's worth of songs though; there's a lot of filler late in the CD, pointless instrumental tracks that hardly pass as songs. If you listen til the end, at least you'll be rewarded with "Loved it", which is a pretty good piece of filler. New Order/Electronic/Monaco fans should get it, at least for the good stuff. It has an unusual combination of all synthesizers except for real drums. Worth it if you can find it used.

5.0 out of 5 stars Extremely enjoyable sound, relaxing and yet invigorating, August 20, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Other Two & You (Audio CD)
The Other Two may be a comment on the fact that the two artists are less well known than the other two members of New Order, but the fact of the matter is that they manage to pull together a very cohesive sound, with strong and tempting grooves.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not New Order- and that's okay..., September 10, 2011
This review is from: Other Two & You (Audio CD)
Reading some other reviews on here, "if there was only Peter Hook's bass or Sumner's singing" ...Well then, it would be a New Order album at that point. ???? The Other Two is exactly what you get. Different, yes. A good thing? For several songs yes, but there's a lot of filler here folks. Buying this in '93, I played the first two songs over and over, and then fast forwarded to 'Innocence' (to skip the filler). Buy it used for a few bucks, it's more than worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lighter Side of New Order, July 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Other Two & You (Audio CD)
While perhaps not an overall classic, this album does work. Gillian Gilbert's sprite-like vocals combined with Stephen Morris' orchestration make some of the tracks on the album boppy and fun. "Tasty Fish", "Selfish", and "Innocence" are three of the outstanding tracks on the album. If you like New Order, Erasure, and Anything Box, you probably will enjoy this album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Come back, you Two!, December 6, 2001
This review is from: The Other Two & You (Audio CD)
The Other Two; Just a New Order side-project in most people's eyes. But even though they only put out two albums, what was contributed to their music revealed the other side of New Order that brought beautiful melodies, light-heartedness, and positive messages to the band. This album is the best one! Gillian's vocals are so pure and pretty!I think it would be really cool if The Other Two did a third album! Come on back you guys! The world needs you!!!

... but not a great album overall. Worth it to complete a collection and get a few of the great songs.

4.0 out of 5 stars the simpler side of neworder..., September 27, 1998
By
This review is from: The Other Two & You (Audio CD)
stephen and gillian morris (gilbert) do have a certain style aside from neworder. stephen's usual style of wicked beats and deep rhythm is vitually non-existant due to the fact that he has gone the way of using computer sequencers instead of analog percusion... this loses something... if he would go insane like he use to when he was in joydivision or the earlier years of neworder, i know it would be incredible, but those days are gone... gillians keyboarding and vocals are fitting for the c.d. but ther is something still missing... what this project needed was the lyrics of bernard sumner and the lull-a-byes of peter hook's bass... this would make the package complete... otherwise, it is still a very good album...

2.0 out of 5 stars DUO FALLS SHORT OF NEW ORDER., May 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Other Two & You (Audio CD)
This CD starts off so strong with "Tasty Fish", "The Greatest Thing", and "Selfish" you think at first why were these two ever with New Order, until the 4th song "Movin' On" appears, than the 5th song, the 6th song, etc., goes way down hill from there, and you know why this duo hasn't made a new album since this debut effort, because they put all there eggs in 3 songs. The CD is worth the 3 songs if you get it at a EP price, otherwise if you have to pay full price for this puppy, forget it.
