4.0 out of 5 stars Great short stories!
In Other World was a book with three different stories. I had not realized that these stories had been released at an earlier time. I enjoyed two of the three stories.

The first story was taken from Kenyon's Born Series. I really liked this story about Adron and Livia. It was so sweet and loving that it sucked me in from the first page. I had seen Adron's name...

All three of these short stories were published before.
I really wish that publishers would print that fact on the cover.

I had seen Adron's name from the other Born books but it was great to get his back story. This book could have been longer because it would have been great to get into more depth about Adron and his injuries and Livia's culture. It was clear that both characters had been through some tragic situations. I loved how the story developed and ended. Adron was in so much physical pain and just wanted to be with Livia so much. I loved the way they met and how their loved developed over one night. I know I had tears in my eyes throughout most of the story. I also laughed a lot. I hope that Ms. Kenyon will do stories on Adron's brothers and sister Zarina. I remember Zarina from Devon's story. She is a kickass female.

The second story started off cute but then just turned weird and confusing. I could not get into it. It just seemed so rushed. I liked the characters but then it got into some kind of library with books written by children and lost authors and just a lot of mumble. I could not get into it after that and I just skimmed over the last half to get to the last book which I knew was a werehunter book.

I loved the last story because I love Kenyon's werehunter stories. This story was so entertaining that i could not put it down until I finished. I had not read a dragon shifter story before and I loved the story between Sebastian and Channon. Sebastian was so sexy and sweet. The whole mating and hand imprinting was great. I cannot wait until her next book No Mercy.

All in all this was a good purchase and I enjoyed two of the stories. I would recommend the book to any fans of Kenyon who have not already purchased these stories earlier. You will enjoy the stories very much. I would have given five stars if not for the second story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth the first story alone!, September 18, 2010
This review is from: In Other Worlds (Paranormal Romance (Berkley)) (Mass Market Paperback)
Fire and Ice
THE STORY - Adron, a league assassin commander, was severely injured by a target. He is fragile now and he hates it, he pushes everyone away and lives in self pity. One night out drinking Livia sits down next to him and starts kissing him to escape the guards her father sends after her. Adron takes her home with him and finds out how perfect for him she is. Livia has a tenacity that is perfect for Adron. Adron is the son of Kiria and Nykyrian from the first league book Born of Night. All the brothers and sister are out to play on this one.
THOUGHTS - This book is my favorite of the three. I adore all the league books, I was hoping to hear Adron's story. Out of the three books, this one has the most feeling coming through the pages. It made me cry and feel the love of Livia and Adron. That's rare, nevertheless in a short story. I'm very impressed with this story. I'm glad we got to see his three brothers and sister.

Knightly Dreams
THE STORY - Taryn has been hurt too much to believe in happy endings anymore. A book store she's never seen before calls to her, where the shop keeper gives her a book for free. SparHawk the brave, the cover of her book, wakes up in her bed the next morning. Taryn and Hawk hit it off right away.
THOUGHTS - this book is my least favorite of the three. I liked the idea behind this story, it just lacked emotion for me. This one is the shortest of the three as well.

Dragonswan
THE STORY - Channon is a history fanatic. She wants to decipher an old dragon tapestry. While studying it she meets Sebastian. He is someone she never pictured being interested in her, but he is. One thing leads to another, but he must go back into time. He is a dragon shifter, right before he leaves a mark shows up on his palm. The mating mark. Sebastian must decide where to go from there with Channon.
THOUGHTS -This was my second favorite in this book. I really liked this story, I wished she wrote more in this setting. Channon and Sebastian's relationship is touching and sweet. I'm not big on anthologies, but this is a good one all in all.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pleasent Surprise, January 26, 2012
This review is from: In Other Worlds (Paranormal Romance (Berkley)) (Mass Market Paperback)
Let me just say, that I'm not really a big fan of anthologies. I see them a lot like eating potato chips when you're starving. They're okay while you're eating them but they leave you feeling wanting at the end. Because of this, I almost did not buy this book but, having heard good things about Dragonswan and wanting to see what happens with Adron, I decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised.

"Fire & Ice" from the League series, is great and I really hope that Sherrilyn gets to write it out as a full story as she first wished to. The second story, "Knightly Dreams" is an absolutely adorable stand alone. As a writer myself, I couldn't help but laugh by the end. And finally, "Dragonswan" from the Dark-Hunters series. This is the series that got me hooked on Sherrilyn's work. This is probably the best Anthology she's written for it in my opinion.

I just discovered Sherrilyn Kenyon this year and have become a huge fan. I've devoured her entire Dark Hunter series and am now into her League series. So happy to discover "Fire and Ice"!!! It may be in short-story format, but it's a PERFECT short story. Adron's physical damage was probably the worst any of her heroes has ever suffered, but he still forced himself to push forward in life because he knew deep down that people loved him. Livia was the perfect balm for his lonely heart. She stuck by him even when he wanted to give up on himself. Overall, I loved meeting Nykyrian and Kiara's children (now grown) and seeing their playful interaction. But it's Adron's heart that moved me the most. I loved the emotional intimacy that SK was able to develop in such a short arc, and was extremely happy with the conclusion of the story. A must read for any League fan!

I liked the concept of "Knightly Dreams," that characters in books are as real as you and I, but just reside in other realms. And that if books that are meant to be written languish because writers refuse to finish their stories, the characters that inhabit those books can go crazy and be locked in literary prison. It was a sweet read, and I thought Sparhawk was rather silly/charming in an Edward-from-"Enchanted" kind of way.

I read "Dragonswan" a few months ago and I don't remember a whole lot about it except that it filled in some initial info about Were Hunters from the Dark Hunter series. I don't remember it being a bad story, just not instantly memorable.

Get this book for "Fire & Ice." You won't regret it!

Otherworlds continues the same excellent writing that is Sherilyn Kenyon. She is able to pull the reader into the story and before you know it you are hooked. She displays great characters, plots and romance. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good story.

I had wanted to know more about Adron, so was very happy when I found this book. However, I didn't realize it was actually 3 different short stories.

What was written for Adron's character, Fire and Ice, was great; 5 stars. His character had strength, honor and compassion. The female lead was worthy of him as well. I only wish he had been given a full book like Nykerian and Syn were given. Even his best friend, Dev, was given a short "book."

The 2 other shorts in this book are pretty much just filler. It felt like Kenyon had intended to write a full book on Adron, but them met a deadline and scribbled out the first thing that popped into her mind in order to have the needed page count for publication. I can't believe she put her name to something so awful.

Fire and Ice saved this book from being a complete disaster and makes this book worth purchasing, BUT buy it on sale. $7.99 for 113 pages (Fire and Ice) is expecting a lot from even her most loyal fan base.

On a side note, I hate it when there are photos of people on the cover art. And it seems that Kenyon's books always feature brunettes for blonde characters and vice-versa. What's up with that?

4.0 out of 5 stars Poignant, sweet, humorous and fun, October 3, 2010
This review is from: In Other Worlds (Paranormal Romance (Berkley)) (Mass Market Paperback)
"In Other Worlds showcased the versality of Sherrilyn Kenyon's writing, with a range running from poignant and sweet to humorous and fun."

According to the author's note, this book is a compilation of short stories she'd written before. But since I've never read any of her books yet, I thought it would be a good introduction for me.

And it certainly was!

Fire and Ice

I loved this novella that's part of her League series. There's a certain poignant quality to the story, contributed in part by the hero's tortured past and broken body and soul. Yet, his romance with the heroine is portrayed with sweetness and depth. Only a woman who truly loved a man would stay with such a man like Adron, who is bitter and continually pushes her away. Theirs is a love that is tested through hardship and sacrifice

Knightly Dreams

This is a quirky novella about a hero who stepped out of the pages of a book to win the heroine's heart and consequently, his happiness. The author took advantage of the zaniness of the situation, and her writing was both humorous and fun, making me wonder how on earth hadn't I discoverd her before this. (I love books that make me laugh.)

Dragonswan

Sebastian Kattalakis is a shapeshifting dragon who time traveled to "borrow" a tapestry hanging in the museum, where he met the human Channon, his one destined mate. He was torn between bringing her into the dangers of his life and letting her go where she would be safe. And what woman wanted to be safe when she could have such a courageous and honorable man by her side to protect her? Channon soon set Sebastian straight, but she had a fight in her hands as they battled for his life.

In the midst of the sexual tension and hot passion these two have for each other, Ms. Kenyon's wit and humor continued to show through in her dialogue and her characters' narratives. This is a related book to the Dark Hunters series, one more series I seriously have to catch up on!

In Other Worlds showcased the versality of Sherrilyn Kenyon's writing, with a range running from poignant and sweet to humorous and fun. Since this is but a sample teaser of her books, I know I'll be in for a delightful smorgasbord when I delve into her full-length novels.

After writing the review, I went to her website. I feel like a total ignorant fool for not knowing who she is and yet, I was awed at the same time. A treasure trove of books for me to dive into! (Good thing, coz I'm nearing the end of the BDB series, at least those that have been published.) Where do I start? Maybe with the League series, coz I was definitely intrigued with Adron's family.
