After reading reviews here, I emailed the company (Westone) and asked about mercury in their product. Here is their response:


Please find the current MSDS attached for Oto-Ease, dated Dec 2008 for product Westone sells. Previous to December 2008 trace amounts of Mercury could be found in Oto-Ease. However, that is no longer the case, that ingredient has been removed.

I love this product and will continue using it.

Our 3 yr old son wears hearing aids, and this stuff is GREAT! it helps them slip right in, no twisting or struggling to get them to fit correctly. i haven't been able to find it in the drugstore, so this is a lifesaver!

Grandma swears by this stuff for her hearing aids. It's a greaseless lubricant but her audiologist says she could use baby-oil instead.

It does contain a small amount of Phenylmercuric nitrate, which the ICSC says can irritate skin; so don't swallow it and discontinue use if redness or irritation develops.

I was surprised to discover Oto-Ease uses mercury as a preservative. I'm going to try something else.

This product was suggested by a doctor friend of mine. For some reason the audiologist that I've been seeing for a couple years never mentioned something like this.

It has relieved the pain from constant use of hearing aids and become mandatory for me to use each morning. A bottle last for months. It's just an excellent product.

I have used Oto-ease for several years and am very happy with it. It is not greasy and it facilitates insertion of the hearing aid ear mold. It also eliminates whistling noise by making a secure fit. I highly recommend it.

I bought custom ear plugs for sleeping and could not use them this without this product. You really only need the smallest of drops.

I don't use this item myself. I got it for my father who wears hearing aids in both ears. He clearly likes the product very much because he uses Oto-Ease exclusively to make his hearing aids more comfortable and to reduce the likelihood of fungal infections.

Oto-eze is exceptionally well suited for use with hearing aids - the volatile lubricant doesn't persist where it isn't needed, and stays present where you do.

This is the second purchase of Oto Eaze I have ordered. This product is for our 16 month old grandson who was born with hearing loss and has been wearing hearing aids since he was 3 months old. It makes it a lot easier putting the aids in his ears. Excelent product.
