4.0 out of 5 stars A great light for reducing eyestrain from a computer screen.
This light is infinitely better than normal flourescents. When you first turn it on, it does seem VERY white and bright, but that's compared to normal office lighting. When the sunlight comes into my office indirectly for that 1 hour a day, I am amazed that the light shining on my desk from the lamp matched the light being reflected in from the outside sunlight. 3.0 out of 5 stars Great Marketing, ok product
I was looking for a "daylight" type desk lamp and research the net for such lamp. What I found out in brief are:

-This liht is a standard flourescent light with a "special" CFL bulb that puts out 6500K range light.

-You can replacement a regular lamp with a Compact Flourescent Bulb in this light range for much much less $$$. ...

I am put off by the marketing hype...

So if you're concerned about whether it really matches sunlight -- it does.

It is bright, so shining onto a computer monitor isn't the correct usage. It should be used indirectly -- bouncing off the walls or desktop. This lamp doesn't allow the light to be directed upward (it's a desk lamp afterall), which the only thing I wish it had so it could illuminate the whole office.

The dataport is just a way to extend your wall phone jack to the light (not a incredibly useful feature, but what are you buying it for?). You plug a wire between the wall and the jack on the back of the lamp and then plug your laptop modem into the jack on the front...

The electronic ballist makes it flicker free, too. Between the flicker free and the natural spectrum, my eye strain has almost gone away while working on my computer in my office.

I am put off by the marketing hype (Dr. XXX research ### years, etc, etc) but then again, uninformed buyer will always pay more...

This is an excellent desk light. The natural sunlight it produces is perfect for checking the colors in your digital photographs and prints. It is easier on the eyes for reading and sewing. The lamp is a pleasure. We bought one as a test and like it so much we bought a second lamp. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because the built-in telephone jacks are a waste and detract slightly from the lamp's appearance.

I have always been distracted with my desk lamps whenever i do work as they either get in the way or they take up too much room but all of that has stopped now that i have purchased a new ott-lite L18332 visionsaver desk organiser with data port. Now the name sounds kind of distracting but belive me it isnt! Its very handy and easy to move around as it is light weight and takes up very little room on the desk so you can move it closer to your work. The ott-lite'' can be put as further away from your work as its new unique light bulb has a large surface area enabling it to cover all your work. It has also a new stylish colour to make you feel just that more important. Its new design also helps you to write comfortably so that your pen doesent keep hitting the top of the lamps head and that it faces over your work getting rid of that annoying shadow covering your work. The lamp also consists of a new eligant style of thin metal giving you more style. When i orderd one i recieved it in perfect mint condition and was made sure i was satisfied by the product. I was not only delighted about the quality of the product but the price of it as it was so low. I am sure it will last me more than longer than i can possibly think of.

2.0 out of 5 stars This is your basic fluorescent light, August 13, 2002

This might be an excellent desk lamp for some needs. However, no where does the advertisement say that this is, for all intents and purposes, a fluorescent lamp. Same type of light I had in college 20 years ago, only a lot more expensive. Forgive my ignorance, but when I read 'replicates the wavelengths of natural daylight indoors' I tend to think of the halogen lamps I have used lately. Not a overpowering, bright white fluorescent light, which, in my opinion, should be no where near a computer LCD or monitor. ...

I saw a demo of the Ott lights in a local radio shack, and fell in love with it. Well worth the price, but will someone tell me what good it does to hook your phone/fax/modem to a lamp? If it makes it flash it'd be SO irritating. Someone who knows please post this and tell me. Thanks
