The Ott-Lite VisionSaver lamp simulates natural daylight, reducing eyestrain and allowing you to see colors and definition accurately. Developed by Dr. John Nash Ott, the Ott-Lite uses a blend of phosphors to provide a natural light that won't wear on you over time as other artificial lighting can.

Setting up the Ott-Lite was easy. We simply connected the neck to the base and plugged it in. The lamp can be swiveled in any direction at the base and at the neck, providing a perfect fit for whatever the work environment. Standing at four feet tall, its sleek shape and charcoal with chrome design would make an attractive addition to any office.

In our tests of the Ott-Lite, we found it to indeed be more like natural daylight than the standard desk lamp we used for comparison. The Ott-Lite's 7-inch, 18-watt bulb provided a pleasantly diffused light over a large area without being too bright, while the standard desk lamp gave off a focused yellowish glow. Colors appeared more accurately with the Ott-Lite, and we detected virtually no glare on the computer screen, so text and detail looked sharper.

Sure, this lamp is rather expensive. I've had one since November 2000 and would not be without it. The light is crisp and as close to daylight as you can get. The tiniest newspaper print, miniscule beads, and delicate black-on-black work are possible under this light. Even though it is flourescent, there is absolutely NO hum or wait for the light to turn on (as with the cheaper desk-model Ott-Lites). It is very well made, and the base is weighted enough to withstand frequent head-butts from my helpful feline companion. Yes, you can buy cheaper lamps, but this one may save your eyes, your patience, and a lot of time in the long term.

My wife uses Ott-Lites for sewing and she loves it... I discovered that it allowed me to read without my glasses. It's amazing how this light improves contrast for reading and and allows me to see details more clearly... I can also work at my desk more comfortably with this great product... Everyone needs one..

This is not a parrot light. I had earlier reviewed this light as a full-spectrum light for parrots. You need the "True Color" lamps, which Amazon does not carry, for the proper spectrum for parrots, and the "Vision Saver" is a different spectrum. It is a very nice light, so in that respect it warrants a good rating.
