4.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for!
Sure, this lamp is rather expensive. I've had one since November 2000 and would not be without it. The light is crisp and as close to daylight as you can get. The tiniest newspaper print, miniscule beads, and delicate black-on-black work are possible under this light. Even though it is flourescent, there is absolutely NO hum or wait for the light to turn on (as with the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Overrated Lamp
This lamp is poorly engineered, cheaply made, and in my personal experience, has a 100% failure rate. I bought one; it was defective, and I returned it for replacement. The second one was also defective, and I returned it for credit. It was hugely expensive, and I was very disappointed in both of them. I bought a fluorescent bulb for my sewing lamp, and it works fine.

Sure, this lamp is rather expensive. I've had one since November 2000 and would not be without it. The light is crisp and as close to daylight as you can get. The tiniest newspaper print, miniscule beads, and delicate black-on-black work are possible under this light. Even though it is flourescent, there is absolutely NO hum or wait for the light to turn on (as with the cheaper desk-model Ott-Lites). It is very well made, and the base is weighted enough to withstand frequent head-butts from my helpful feline companion. Yes, you can buy cheaper lamps, but this one may save your eyes, your patience, and a lot of time in the long term.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Reading, July 27, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Ott-Lite VisionSaver L18330 DesignPro Floor Lamp (Office Product)
My wife uses Ott-Lites for sewing and she loves it... I discovered that it allowed me to read without my glasses. It's amazing how this light improves contrast for reading and and allows me to see details more clearly... I can also work at my desk more comfortably with this great product... Everyone needs one..

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a parrot light, but good light, September 29, 2003
This review is from: Ott-Lite VisionSaver L18330 DesignPro Floor Lamp (Office Product)
This is not a parrot light. I had earlier reviewed this light as a full-spectrum light for parrots. You need the "True Color" lamps, which Amazon does not carry, for the proper spectrum for parrots, and the "Vision Saver" is a different spectrum. It is a very nice light, so in that respect it warrants a good rating.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not buy this lamp, March 17, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Ott-Lite VisionSaver L18330 DesignPro Floor Lamp (Office Product)
I purchased this lamp in October 2002 to use while doing detailed artwork and calligraphy. The 18W tubes were inadequate, and I had to use an additional lamp.
The lamp broke down yesterday. New tubes (also very expensive) did not help. I also noticed that the transformer was always extremely hot, practically burning to the touch.
I don't recommend this lamp.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't buy it, January 4, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Ott-Lite VisionSaver L18330 DesignPro Floor Lamp (Office Product)
The Ott-Lite arrived defective. I put in the light bulb, and it doesn't stay on, unless you press on the end of the light bulb. Completely unacceptable for a light that costs [price]. Don't waste your time buying it, even if it did stay on, it is supposed to have "day light" quality, the cast is so blue, it isn't any better than a regular flourescent light that is much less expensive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful lighting, but poorly designed...., March 17, 2007
This review is from: Ott-Lite VisionSaver L18330 DesignPro Floor Lamp (Office Product)
I don't think anyone who argue that OTT-LITE technology isn't great when it comes to natural looking light. OTT-LITE is cashing in on this and they certainly deserve too. However, the quality of some of the products beyond the bulbs and light is sometimes questionable. Unfortunately, this is the case with this lamp.

In general, this looks "cheap," but it is certainly passable if it is sorrounded by high quality furtniture or in an office. One thing I was surprised by is that although it is a floor lamp, it is rather short. When the neck is bent it is barely high enough to provide light over my recliner. When it is fully extended, it is obviously shorter than most other standard table lamps.

This lamp also has a small base. This can be a problem if it is likely be be bumped even lightly. With the cost of replacement bulbs, it's probably not the best light to have around kids who are running around. This is mostly a problem when the neck on the lamp is bent into a position where the lamp is balanced in one direction, but this is really the only useful position to use this lamp.

There is an ideal application for the lamp and that is for illuminating precise points on a desk. If you want to use it for this purpose, it is excellent, but that is how it should be advertised. If this is what you really need, however, you may be better served with an OTT-LITE desk lamp which is less expensive.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH OTT LIGHT, June 1, 2007

Bought an OTT lite and it worked, but, when the bulb burned out, no replacement bulb worked. Exchanged the lite for a second unit and the same problem occured. Coincidence? I think not. Buy any other kind of light-not this one.
