My wife is a doll artist and does a lot of extremely detailed work on making what are referred to as reborn dolls. In addition she does a lot of work on doll clothes. She began suffering eye strain from our normal lighting and decided to get an Ottlite floor lamp. We looked at one in a craft store and the price was just ridiculous. So we went to Amazon and found this same model at nearly half the price.

The lamp furnishes a bright "daylight" type of light and increases the vision ability markedly. I'm 74 and, believe me, I can read even really small print under this thing. The two "arms" are almost useless for my needs and I don't notice my wife using them either. My wife is very satisfied with the bright clear light and says it aids her work considerably.

I would view the stand as ugly and out of place in our living room and we have no other place to use it. I would regard the lamp as overpriced, even with the much lower online price. Before you buy, you might check out the cost of replacement bulbs as they can be breathtakingly expensive and one of ours didn't last even a fraction of the expected lifetime.

I love my lamp. There is one improvement that could be made and that is the ability to shorten the lamp when it is a floor lamp. I am short and sit in short chairs and are unable use the magnifier because it does not go low enough for me.

I almost didn't purchase this lamp because of the comments about the magnifying glass being too high. Thanks to S. Johnson from Buffalo for pointing out that the two arms are easily switched to pointing down. That way, it's perfect. When it arrived I thought, "Oh, dear. This is going to be difficult to put together." It was easy and I did it myself.

If you are going to do any kind of close work under artificial light, this is excellent. It's good for things like removing splinters, too.

I was very surprised to find that the Lamp ships with parts to make it a desk lamp, a clam-on lamp or a floor lamp. The lamp in general is very high quality and confirms what I have always said, it's not my bad eyesight, it is bad light :) I can actually read fine print better without reading glasses under this light."

Several criticisms in other reviews are of the arms being too high for use. They can be mounted facing downward too which would be the natural position for the floor model configuration. Why the manufacturer shows them facing upward is a mystery. As you know it can be configured as a table lamp also and that way the upward facing arms make sense.

Only four stars from me though. It's overpriced in my estimation.

I bought this to use while knitting in a recliner. I wanted to have the magnifier between me and me work, and use the clip to hold the pattern, with the light on it all. There is no way to configure this lamp so the magnifier can be used this way. The magnifier is way too high, and cannot be bent down that low. I even tried installing it upside down, but that does not work at all. Rightside up, it won't go low enough. The clip is hard to position. I now use just the lamp part, as a reading lamp. The whole thing is not very stable either. I just had it fall over and shatter the bulb.

There are two major problems with the functionality of this lamp. First, when the lamp arm is extended horizontally, the base isn't heavy enough to prevent the lamp from easily tipping over into your work. Second, the shade/bulb component cannot be tilted to position the shade toward you and light shining away toward your work. The light only points straight down. If you work at angle, such as at a drafting table or easel, this light will not tilt toward the work. Even working flat, the light bulb is constantly getting in your field of view. It will have to be returned.

A lesser problem, one of aesthetics more so than function, is that the cord does not thread down through the stem of the lamp, but rather is hanging loose. One flimsy plastic clip is provided to clip the cord to outside of the 3-foot length of the stem. Mind you, the suggested retail price for this lamp on the manufacturer website is $250. For that price, one would not expect a loose cord running down the length of a floor lamp. And, as pointed out by another reviewer, the magnifying arm is much shorter than the light arm, making the magnifier of little use unless your work is very close to the stem (or base with the desk configuration).

The Ott Lite is a remarkable tool, in whatever form it takes. This incarnation - as a 3-in-1 craft lamp - is the most useful and adaptable version yet! It comes boxed with a table clamp, a floor stand and the base to use as a desk lamp. Also, attached to the main section of the unit is a flexible clip, for holding directions and pictures of the project on hand, and a wonderful flexible magnifier - this one, without a frame, which makes it easier to see things. It is incredibly easy to change from one version to another. The Lite itself in the best yet from Ott; I can state this absolutely, as I have two other Ott Lites, with moveable shades - one with a flexible magnifier. Their light has always been superior to that of any other regular lamp, but this new craft lamp really IS daylight in a lamp! Seperating numerous colors of wool for crewel always used to have to be done in bright daylight, but that's what I now have at any time- in this extraordinary 3-in-one lamp! I have already recommended it to all my friends at my local Embroiderer's Guild and all my other friends, for even just reading - this OttLite K94CP3 is superior to all other lamps for everything!

This lamp is a complete waste of money. I bought it precisely so that I could use the magnifier plus lamp for quilting. Although the light itself is somewhat height adjustable, the arms with the magnifier and clip are not. The magnifier is consequently completely useless unless you happen to be very tall or sit on a high chair. I was very disappointed - the rimless magnifier is a wonderful idea, but is completely unusable because of the design.

this lamp sits by my living room chair and is amazing. I am a cross stitcher who is legally blind. This lamp lets me cross stitch again! I use the magnifier to thread needles and the lamp to see the smallest stitch. I do not use the clamp to hold most patterns because I move a lot due to pain and have to rearrange the pattern every few minutes.
