I got the Otterbox with the thought that it was from the makers of a tough case but the commuter case is a much lighter and flimsier version that is ok to help avoid scratches but not much more. I got the case for my daughter and it actually tore after she tried to remove it to clean off her phone after the very first week. I have had good luck with the other otterbox products but feel that this item is just not tough enough for the price

The hard plastic seems it will protect the phone well but omg ouch, pressing the hard plastic portion at the top against the ear is very painful. It bothered me after literally 30 seconds on the phone. It's just something to know about this case.

I like this case - i wanted something solid, not just a flimsy rubber skin. this is partly a rubber skin, but a second part is hard plastic that snaps onto it. It seems quite protective without being bulky. Only two problems, the first is that I have to take it apart in order to insert the phone into the charging cradle that I use. The second is that the package was, I think, supposed to include a plastic film to protect the screen, and that was not included; but that wasn't a big deal for me. So overall I recommend the case.
