Everything works great and looks really good.

The covers over the home buttons make it hard to use and the flaps that cover the charger and headphone set snag on pockets.

Very good case, doesn't add bulk to an already pretty big phone like some other cases.

This is the Otterbox Commuter Case for Droid X. It sandwiches a soft conforming rubber (silicone or very similar) sleave inside a hard plastic shell. This is probably the best way to protect against droppage which would be the primary reason you might be looking at this product. The hard plastic outer shell keeps the case from getting caught in your pocket - gel cases have too much friction and can make it near impossible to remove the phone from a pocket. Fit, finish, and appearance are all excellent when the case is installed, it does not dramatically increase the size of the phone the way many other cases will, and installation and removal can be done in less than ten seconds without needing a quarter or some type of tool. The Otterbox comes with a screen protector that is perfectly fine but does not cover the entire glass surface of the screen - the peripheral one-tenth inch is not covered around the sides, top, and bottom. This is adequate since the soft silicone sleave wraps around the sides of the Droid X and protects the peripheral surface of the glass, but I installed a different screen protector that covers all of the glass surface anyways. The Otterbox does an excellent job of protecting the phone and all surfaces and buttons are covered by the soft silicone sleave. The buttons are easily operated by pushing on matching rubber bosses for each button, with no loss of precision as a result. Overall I give this product five out of five stars especially at competitive prices around 20 bucks or less. Unless you insist on a kickstand or belt loop this is the best Droid X case for protection and ease of use, but without added size or friction.

This case protects the phone, but at too high a cost. The 4 main buttons are completely covered and very difficult to press, and the flaps that cover the HDMI/power and headphone jack flop around and have to be cut off after a few days.

The rubber interior shell also collects lint too quickly, and the stick on screen cover is too small for the screen making it difficult to correctly center it on the screen.

The good:

Nice size, doesn't add much bulk.
Slides in and out of my pocket unlike my previous case.
The buttons for the power, volume and camera are crisp.

The bad:

The silicone port covers stick out past the hard shell making them feel like they are going to flip open.
The home row of buttons on the front of the camera are super squishy.
The silicone sleeve gaps around the face of the phone.

I used my Droid X for a few months without a case while I waited for Otterbox to release their Droid X cases.

The commuter is an all-around pretty good case. It definitely makes the phone feel more sturdy and does not increase the bulk as much as I had feared. The main qualm I have with the design is the flap that covers the headphone jack at the top does not fit flush with the rest of the case and is prone to flip open and just plain looks bad.

However, do not trust this case to protect your screen. My toddler dropped my phone onto our wood floors, only about a 2 foot drop, the phone landed on its back yet the screen was still broken. The Otterbox Commuter did nothing to shield the phone from this type of event which I had assumed it would.

I could understand the Commuter failing to protect the phone had it been dropped from higher, or maybe onto a surface like tile or concrete, but it definitely should have protected against such an easy fall as this.

I really wanted a good protector for my new Droid since it wasn't cheap. This is the best case I've ever had for any phone!

-It doesn't add too much bulk, which is what I was worried about.

-Be careful with the instillation and it will work well. Make sure you pull out the silicone port covers when you put the shell over the phone. This is the "gapping" that other reviewers are referring to.

-I see no issues with the button covers. They are easy to press but still provide protection.

-I have dropped the phone with no damage to the phone or case.

-I'd say the screen protector is more "beefy" than the one I purchased at Verizon.

-Overall this thing is solid and I would buy another!

Being a clumsy tech nerd I am forever searching for a good case for my electronics. A friend recommended me to otterbox and I went with this case so it could still fit in the tiny pockets of my girl jeans.
I find this case to be pretty heavy duty and nice. I did not have any problems with the silicone case that some other people seem to be having, so maybe they improved on it? I actually find the buttons really easy to use and a bit of an improvement over the ones under the case. I have not used to screen protector yet, seeing as my phone already had an invisisheild one on it, and I need to get the phone replaced under warranty (weird touch screen issues, nothing to do with the case or anything). The case does add a bit of heft to the phone, but not anything really big or unmanageable.
Overall I recommend this case whole heartedly.

This case provides a great amount of protection. I like the fact that it has two layers of impact protection (a silicon wrap and a hard plastic shell).

The fit and finish are great . . . up until you compare it to the same product made for an iPhone. The case has inserts for all the ports, which sometimes have issues staying closed. On the iPhone version, the port covers never popped open and they were easy to close. On top of that, the iPhone case came in a lot of different colors. I am just a bit bummed that the same attention was not paid to the Droid X.

Would I recommend this product to a friend? Absolutely, it is the best case for the Droid X. It would have gotten 5 stars had Otterbox made the case to the same standard as they did for the iPhone.
