From the Manufacturer

Made for Adventure

The Defender Series for the Galaxy Note II allows people to utilize their technology everywhere with confidence knowing that their device is protected while inside a highly robust, three-layer case.

Anyone who has ever owned the Samsung Note knows it is more than just a tablet: it is a prized possession. And anyone whose broken one of these prized possessions knows that gut wrenching, “the world is going to end” feeling that takes over when you drop, step on, sit on (insert other unexpected, but unfortunately, often daily accidents here) your device. Never experience what that feels like by protecting your investment with a Defender Series case. From a drop onto the asphalt to a toss across your living room by a temper-tantrum-throwing toddler, we’ve thought of all of those “worst case scenarios.”

OtterBox provides Protection For What’s Next.

Additional Information

  • The internal layer is a solid polycarbonate structure that completely encases the Note II
  • The built-in screen protector prevents smudges and scratches
  • The rubber outer layer wraps around the solid inner shell creating a practically indestructible case
  • Versatile shield stand accommodates landscape viewing and a natural typing angle
  • Two-piece inner shell fits firmly around the device
  • A holster with a ratcheting belt clip is included and can hold the device face-out for use or face-in for protection

The worst thing about getting this amazing phone is the lack of protective accessories available for it when it first came out. You literally had to baby your phone from scratches, bump, and drops for 2+ weeks until the cases and screen protectors SLOOOOOOOOWLY became available. I almost think it's some kind of conspiracy where the phone companies tell accessories manufacturers to wait on releasing accessories so consumers can damage their phones during that brief period so the phone companies can milk more money from returns, repairs, and replacements.... Anyways, I bought this phone on October 24th and just today received the case. Let me assure you - IT IS WORTH THE WAIT.

I'm not going to go on about Otterbox, but they are a top tier company who releases very well manufactured and IMO, awesome phone cases. The last case I had with them was for the HTC HD7, and I put that case through some serious abuse for over a year without any serious problems.

So if you are familiar with the Defender Series from Otterbox, you'd know the case is very durable. Each case in the current Defender Series actually consists of four parts: a polycarbonate frame with built in screen protector which goes on top of your phone. This frame connects to an inner polycarbonate layer which sandwiches your phone from the back. THEN the whole thing is wrapped around by a silicone outer layer. Then you have the option to connect this beast to a swivel belt-clip holster. These three layers of protection provides excellent resistance against drops, scratches, bumps, and shocks; however, NOT water resistant.

I seem to have a bit of a pattern. Going from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy S3 to a Note 2, the bigger screens make me increasingly paranoid about scratching them. I had a Defender for the iPhone, but I skipped getting one for the S3 and regretted it. I got my Defender for my Note 2 a couple of days after getting the phone itself. There are a few things to note about this particular version of the defender that you wouldn't necessarily think about for the others.

When I got my Defender for my iPhone, it obviously added some bulk. But that was a phone half the size of the Note 2. The iPhone in its Otterbox wouldn't be as big as a bare Note. So obviously this adds some bulk onto an already massive phone, but that can be a pro or con depending on how you think about it. It adds double the thickness, but it makes the phone ultra grippy. It's a lot easier for me to hold now, so I take the bulk as a pro.

Another thing to think about is the screen protector for the S-Pen. The protector adds a little more resistance to the screen, and again, I count this as a pro for the Defender. The pen (including hovering) works fine and the protector doesn't take away very much from the screen. Actually using the case with my phone took away the biggest worry, which was how the screen was going to act with a protector over it. I would have lived with it either way, but knowing that my 5.5" screen is protected and still functions almost exactly as a naked screen does is great.

As far as the other part of the case goes, it seems like they've made the rubber exoskeleton layer thicker than the iPhone 4/4S version I got. It makes the case feel higher-quality and makes me feel like I'm getting my money's worth. It's also nice being able to precisely close the flap for the USB and 3.

This is the fourth Oterbox that I have purchased. The first three were great and protected my phones perfect. Well when I got my new Note 2 the first thing I wanted was an Oterbox to protect it. Finally received it the other day. At first look I was impressed and it looked to be a strong and rugged as the previous ones. Once I put it onto the phone I found that the quality was not so great. Everything fit fine but not tight like the other cases. There is a gap between the screen protector and the screen so everytime you touch the screen you are pushing the protector into the screen first. Also there is a hole cut in the screen protector for the home button, this allows dirt and moisture to get to your phone. Is not very good to protect from dirt. In all it is a good strong cover and will protect the phone but it is sure not up to past quality standards of Oterbox.
