Bought this for my new Moto Razr Maxx. Very well made but the instructions on how to put it all together were shown in poorly executed photos on the inside of the box,in other words, useless.Otter does give a web address where better instructions are supposed to be available but I didn't need them. As for the box itself, it is made from fairly thick plastic and works well to protect my phone. The only other drawback is that when you have the box on your phone, it's too thick to fit in the desk or car cradles. I now have to charge my phone with a micro USB only. I guess I'll be returning my cradles to Verizon. The phone, already thin but wide, is made even more so by the addition of the Otterbox. I did not have a problem with this as I have very large hands and it actually improved the fit of the phone in my hand. The holster is well made and fits securely on the belt, also being able to swivel to new positions with a ratcheting mechanism on the back. The case has a nice rubberized shell surrounding the plastic case on 5 sides. The plastic that goes over the screen is well made and does not interfere with the touchscreen. If you put the case into the holster face-first, as I do, the phones face will be protected from scratches as you move through your daily routine. It took a few days to get comfortable and adept at removing the phone from the holster but with repeated use it does become easier. Overall I really like my Otterbox and would definately recommend it to anyone.

The protection for the phone is outstanding. The issue is that the outer plastic screen cover let's dirt in between the phone and cover and it is VERY hard to pull the case apart to clean it. Also, the outer plastic screen cover shows dirt and grease and needs to be cleaned constantly. I had the Otterbox Commuter for my last phone and the screen protector that came with that was great. Also on the defender, the outer case is rubber and is a magnet for dirt and hair. On the commuter, the outer case is hard plastic and did not show the dirt. So the upside is excellent protection for the phone, downside is the plastic screen cover and outer rubber case.

++ Update 5/21/12 ++

Installation - I didn't bother with instructions and used the video guide straight from Otterbox's website. It wasn't NEARLY as easy as shown in the video. The plastic housing that you have to separate to hold the phone is incredibly difficult. I'm in no way weak and some corners would pop easily while others were down right impossible. I ultimately ended up resorting to using a credit card to wedge and take my time. I actually called the company at one point because I felt like I was going to snap it from prying so hard.

Grip/Texture - The rubberized casing is both love and hate. It makes it easy to handle but it also attracts a ton of dust/fibers/whatever.

Membrane - This is pretty much the reason I only gave 4 stars. The membrane in short, sucks. It quickly gets smudged up and it is difficult to clean. It is responsive and hasn't limited any functions but it does have this pretty grainy/texture shine to it. It is attached to the plastic casing that holds the phone but it looks like it can be removed if you are that daring, and simply attach a stick-on protector instead.

Holster - The holster can be handy in multiple ways, aside from being used as a holster. The clip locks out in place to be used as a kickstand and as seen in my uploaded photos you can set it in many ways to accommodate your workspace while leaving ease of use/viewing. Also, while using it in holster formation I am not fond of it in your typical horizontal fashion but instead find it much more comfortable when it is vertical.

Protection - I put this case on before I even started up the device.

I love the Otterbox products. There is just something liberating when one these armored cases are gracing my expensive electronics. The Razor Maxx fits very snugly into this enclosure's armored inner core. It's the most precise fit I've gotten from an otterbox and it is sure to deal well with fumble fingered drops. The outer silicone wraps nicely around the inner lining and completes the shock-packaging. Otter boxes are by necessity a bit large. The size is a function of the degree of protection provided. There are a number of port covers that are open-able to provide access to earphone, charger, HDMI ports. One issue I'm struggling with is that the lap dock adapter doesn't seem to fit down into the top flap. I'm trying to find an adapter that might correct the problem. The charge cable fits fine. The Motorola Car-Dock does not accommodate even Motorola's cases, and you will need to look for a slip-grip if you want this mounted on the window. There are apps available that will let you run the dock programs when in these cases.
