I bought this Otter Box to provide protection for my new Motorola Bionic. It arrived and for sure-the box itself is first class. However, it has to be first class, because the belt clip is the worst engineered such item I've ever experienced. It is fortunate that the box itself is very strong because in just a few days on belts ranging from 1" to 2 " (several kinds and widths), I have seen my new phone drop to the floor, sail across the room and generally fail to stay where it is put. In short - phone cover fine, clip awful. Though not an engineer, one solution could be something locking it closed... not locking it open as the clip works now. Disappointed, I am.

This is a high quality, very durable case. I would give it 5 stars, but I think it could have been designed slightly better for charging. Some micro USB connectors that have a larger plastic housing around the plug will not work because the charging slot will not quite fold back far enough and part of the plastic housing gets in the way.

That is probably a result of them getting the case out for sale so quickly once the phone went to market. I had to wait a long time for one to come out for my Droid X, but it was perfect when I got it.

I really hope the company will consider making cases to fit the extended battery. Verizon has pretty much decided customers need an extended battery to be happy with the phone. The carrier is currently selling extended batteries for this phone at a 50% discount and trying to get people who purchase the phone to also buy one.

This case is big and bulky, and it turns out that is what I like about it. Finally, after years of not feeling like I'm talking on a phone, with my Bionic in the OtterBox, I feel like I have a phone in my hand. In addition, its rugged, and seems to keep dirt, grime, and the occasional splash of water off the phone. I really like the case.

Ok, lets start this out by saying that Otterbox is the leader in protective phone covers. They make a great product that does exactly what it is supposed to do. Your phone will not be protected better with any other case. Now with that out of the way, the defender is the most protective of the two choices for the Bionic, but you pay for that protection in size. The Defender case makes the phone go from a sleek, stylish sex symbol, to a clumsy, burly idiot. The size of the case makes it nigh impossible to fit in the front pocket of anything less the Jnco Jeans. I have taken to putting it in my back pocket, which is for girls. Otterbox thought to fix this problem by including a cool stylish belt clip. I type "cool" and "stylish" with as much sarcasm as I can muster. If I wanted to look like my dad I would be tucking my T-shirts in as well as utilizing this Batman-esque utility clip. The cover not only contains the shock absorbent plastic but also a rubber cover that protects your sweet spots(corners, edges, and cord inputs). This grippy, rubber cover assists the phone in its inability to be easily used in conjunction with a pocket. Not only does it grip onto the fabric of your pocket but also the lint attached to said fabric, causing the rubber to be covered in a fabric-y discharge. This takes away from the look of the phone, but then again so does the bulkiness. All in all, that shouldn't matter though, you are buying a protective cover, looks should come second to functionality.

Bottom Line: If you work construction, or another profession where your phone is at constant danger, the Defender Series is exactly what you need. It allows you to stay current with the killer new phones and it keeps you from having to buy them every other week. For everyone else, the commuter series should work well enough.

I had an original Droid that I purchased a hard case/belt clip product at Verizon. It protected my Droid perfectly and the case is still in one piece.

When I bought the Bionic, I was told that the best case to get was the Otterbox. So I looked it up and found that they had two models, the Commuter and the Defender. The Commuter doesn't offer a belt clip, so I went with the Defender.

The box arrived in a timely fashion. I opened it up and my first impression was that it looked like something from the Transformers.

I have to admit it does protect the phone if it is dropped. How can it not, it's almost tripled in thickness. It's no longer the sleek Bionic that I bought, but a chubby chunk of plastic in a thick rubber girdle. It feels and looks like I have one of those old text pagers from the 80's.

The other issue I have is that I think they tried to make a stand out of the clip. There is a tab that locks it in place. There are two problems - if it was meant for that function - the phone is so heavy that when you try to lean it back, it comes forward. The second problem is that when you clip it on your and the phone gets hung up, the clip locks in that position and I've had it fall off of my belt several times. My solution was a pair of pliers to eliminate the tab that holds the clip in place.

One warning: If you bought a lapdock to use with your Bionic - DON"T BUY THIS PRODUCT. You can't mount it in the lapdock unless you remove it totally from the case. Maybe Otterbox can build an HDMI/USB extender cable as a solution.

If Otterbox intended this design to be bulletproof - they achieved their goal. If they meant it to be functional - they failed.

Hope this helps. Still searching for a belt clip solution
