That is probably a result of them getting the case out for sale so quickly once the phone went to market. I had to wait a long time for one to come out for my Droid X, but it was perfect when I got it.
I really hope the company will consider making cases to fit the extended battery. Verizon has pretty much decided customers need an extended battery to be happy with the phone. The carrier is currently selling extended batteries for this phone at a 50% discount and trying to get people who purchase the phone to also buy one.
The Otterbox replaces a very nice flexible TPU case that I had initially purchased here on Amazon.com.
This case simply provides much more serious protection. It's certainly worth spending approximately $30.00 now to avoid having to replace a potentially damaged phone in the future ($699.00 retail!) to say nothing of the fact that regularly using this case will certainly increase the trade-in/resale value of the phone kept therein when it's time to get a new phone.
I also really like the built-in screen protector. There's no need to bother with often difficult to apply stand-alone screen protectors.
I have noticed several complaints about the size of the case in reviews posted here, namely that it makes this already large phone even larger.
Personally, I don't find the increased bulk of the phone (especially the thickness) while in the Otterbox to be very bothersome. The Droid Bionic is already a big phone from the get go and will remain so no matter what you do.
If your employment/work situation allows you to wear cargo pants on a regular basis, I find that this is the best way to always readily have this phone at your side. It fits perfectly and unobtrusively into the right cargo pocket of my pants and I can avoid using the included belt holster/clamp.
Bottom Line: If you work construction, or another profession where your phone is at constant danger, the Defender Series is exactly what you need. It allows you to stay current with the killer new phones and it keeps you from having to buy them every other week. For everyone else, the commuter series should work well enough.
