If your looking for the best case for your ipod, but still want it to be sleek and cool? BUY THIS CASE!,
This review is from: Otterbox Waterproof Box Case for iPod nano 1G (Clear) (Electronics)
ok, ive bought 7 different cases for my ipod nano...some were alluminum , others were rubber. i live in florida and the other cases dont offer ANY protection from sand and dirt...but this case is air tight and offer avaliabilty to some ports.
Here's a ipod owners worst night mare... i was sitting by the pool, and some kids that were horse playing smashed into me and my ipod nano gets flung into the pool. but it wasnt hurt in the least from the water or the drop. because the case is actually waterproof and drop proof. so basically you can entrust your ipod to your otterbox case, to keep everything out, and make sure everything thats in stays safe : > and your ipod still looks SEXY

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Otterbox Waterproof Box Case for iPod nano 1G (Clear) (Electronics)
I bought the Otterbox soley as a kayaking precaution: I don't intend to get my iPod wet but when you're paddling in questionable weather, as Rumsfeld would say, 'Stuff happens.' So I found this little thing and to my amazement people were actually swimming with them. So I researched the product a bit and found it received mainly positive but still mixed reviews.
When the Otterbox arrived I was skeptical and set up some very simple waterproof tests. First, submerging the empty case in a water pitcher. Perfect. Submerged with shaking; again, perfect. Then, I inserted the iPod as directed and sumberg... nononoonnoogetitoutgetitoutdammitisitdead??!!! It, um, didn't perform as well as I hoped but about as well as I expected. Water quickly seeped through the very very small amount of sealing rubber and began drowning the iPod (in a matter of five seconds.) After making sure the iPod wasn't totally hosed I opted to give it another shot. This time I squeezed the living beejesus outta the thing and it worked fine. So, findings: If you plan on using this as a waterproofing device, this probabally will work but I wouldn't trust it 100% so, in short, how much do you actually care about your iPod? If you're okay risked it, this should be worth the risk. If you can't/really don't want to replace it, keep it outta the dang water. If you care only for function and not style, you can buy some waterproof headphones, duct tape, and Saran wrap and be fine. If you want this solely as a precautionary measure, a small dry bag and duct tape(i.e. for kayaking) is less expense and much more reassuring than this thing. While, yes, on the second try it was waterproof, I wouldn't want to bet money that was the case each time I got wet.

Works as described,
This review is from: Otterbox Waterproof Box Case for iPod nano 1G (Clear) (Electronics)
This product is great. I swim about 30 laps 4 times a week, and this waterproof case really does keep the water out. I love how I can still access the "wheel" on the front of the Ipod while I am swimming.

A Good Unit,
This review is from: Otterbox Waterproof Box Case for iPod nano 1G (Clear) (Electronics)
I've had minor issues with the headphone contact, after several years of use, but the unit works well. It has protected my first generation Nano well, and after a lot of rugged use I'm quite pleased with the product.

I bought this a few months ago and I absolutely love it! I swim about 80 laps, 2-4 times a week and my otterbox has been wonderful! It makes swimming sooooo much better! This is worth every penny! The only downside is that it is a bit bulky and took me some time to figure out the best way to secure it to my suit, it is also sometimes a bit tricky getting my ipod out of it after i swim since its in there so securely- but its totally worth it! However, I would definently test it in the sink before you use it since some people have had problems. I just put a little paper towel inside it and then submerged it in a bowl of water for several hours. I also shuck it around quite hard in the water to make sure it wouldn't leak before I put my ipod in it.

Great little find for my daily swim,

Ok, so here is the deal. I love to swim. I swim 5-6 times a week for about an hour a day. I would swim all day if I could, but lets face it, swimming laps in a pool can be boring. So I researched many different kinds of waterproof cases for my beloved Ipod and I settled on the Otterbox based on others who reviewed it. So I bit the bullet & I got one along with a set of h2o earphones. I put it all together and prayed! I got in the pool, went under water and low and behold I heard The Foo Fighters. JOY!! So, I started swimming and swimming and had the best swim to date. Time flew by and I was happy. Now all I can do is caution the person reading this and remind you, there are many DIFFERENT generations of ipods. Make sure you get the right Otterbox for yours. I also used my existing Ipod armband to hold my Otterbox, because even though it has a belt clip, I was not wearing a belt, so the armband worked great. If this helps you make your decision then I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

A Great Product for the Price,

I tested this thing by sticking two cotton-balls inside it and then pinning it down underwater in my sink for like 12 hours...not a drop of water got inside. If you want to protect your iPod, get this product. The only downside(s) are that you can't charge it while it's in the case, you can't use the "hold" button while it's in the case, and it's a little on the bulky side... I would buy it again in a second.

definitely weather proof but made my nano much bigger and heavier...almost ruins the point of having a nano... on the other hand, i'm so klutzy it's good to have something i can stick my nano in and then throw into a beach bag without worrying too much... just heavy for running and such

I've had my otterbox for just about a year now and LOVE it!!! i tested it before using by putting tissue in it and soaking in water, and everything was fine! I take my otterbox to the beach all the time, and even race my outgger canoe while listening to my tunes! The otterbox has kept my nano super safe, and although some complain about the size, it love it... keeps me from losing the darn nano... again! I love that the wheel still works, and feel very confident with my nano in the otterbox!!! I would recommend this product to any and everyone, although i have not yet taken it underwater swimming. The cost isn't much more than a apple skin! LOVE IT!!!

I just tried this out for the first time and loved it! I bought it for snorkeling and so far I have no complaints. It seems very durable, like it will last longer than my Nano. When I first opened it, i was surprised by its size and weight, a bit bigger and heavier than i expected. However, this was not a problem at all in the pool. I wouldn't use this case for everyday usage because of the size and weight, but it's ideal for maximum protection. It's great to not only be able to swim with music, but also to be able to adjust the volume, change the song, and I suppose I could watch a video underwater if I had any. Oh, and the back has a place where you can wrap up your earphone cord, an unexpected bonus that I wish my regular case had. I recommend this for swimming, or anything else where you need heavy-duty protection from the elements.
FYI- I use waterproof earbuds made by WAVES with this case. |
