5.0 out of 5 stars Never has history been more hilarious!
This book is simply genius comedy. Some of the best work The Onion has ever done. This is a must-own for all history buffs with a sense of humor. You really have to have a good grasp of history to fully appreciate all of the jokes, but just about anyone should be able to enjoy it on some level.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but a bit tiresome
I've been a fan of The Onion for years, and enjoy their weekly newsletter as well as their daily one-minute podcasts. That said, I found this book to be less entertaining - sure there's ribald and sophomoric humor (a la the Harvard Lampoon and then National Lampoon of decades ago) but I guess I prefer my bon-mots in smaller doses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funniest thing I have ever read, November 24, 2007
This review is from: Our Dumb Century: The Onion Presents 100 Years of Headlines from America's Finest News Source (Hardcover)
This book provides HOURS of entertainment. The page with the huge headline "MAN LANDS ON F%@!ING MOON" and accompanying transcript of the conversation between the lunar lander and ground control ["Lander: Holy Sh#t! I'm on the f#$%ing MOON!" Houston: "Holy S#@T!"] alone is worth the price of the book. But there are countless smaller nuggets, such as a small entry in one of the pages from the early 1900s: "German Philosopher Posits Possible Existence of 'Supermodels'".

Without a doubt the funniest book I have ever read.

God bless the Onion! Nothing and no one is sacred or left unscathed. I have given this to firends who are communists, democrats, republicans, evangelicals, etc. Anyone with a sense of humor and some knowledge of history will love this!

5.0 out of 5 stars What would Jesus do? He would read this book., January 16, 2008

If the title for my review offends you then don't read this book. If not then the humor found in this book will entertain you for hours. I suggest purchasing the paperback for bathroom reading and the hardcover for your classier guests.

Nice piece of work, not as interesting as expected. However it will remain in my library for the long term.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very funny inciteful book, January 11, 2009
This review is from: Our Dumb Century: The Onion Presents 100 Years of Headlines from America's Finest News Source (Hardcover)
I found this book by accident shortly before
Christmas and enjoyed it so much that I ended up buying copies for a lot of my friends. It is frequently laugh-out-loud funny, not at all politically correct. I loved it.

The title pretty much sums this book up. All the articles are funny but my favorite one is about Amelia Earhart. "AMELIA EARHART MISSING, famed aviatrix probably shopping search teams say."
If you have a sense of humor and you like recent History then you will love this book.

Incredibly funny. Fantastically smart.
The Onion people make the rest of us feel inadequate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Silliness, January 14, 2008
This review is from: Our Dumb Century: The Onion Presents 100 Years of Headlines from America's Finest News Source (Hardcover)
The more you know and pay attention to the news the funnier this book will be to you. It not only skewers the news makers and their pomposity, but more importantly it shoots barbs at the news reporters who deserve it equally as much.

I like to read a couple of the articles at a time so that I can savor them.

Highly recommended.
