Biography

The music industry is in a dire way these days. Prefabricated hard rock boy bands are snatching up recording contracts. Some bands are even paying for services to artificially bolster their myspace song counts in order to grab the attention of record labels. Life for bands back in the 1980's seemed like a more earnest period of time. There was no internet, no myspace, and the boy band bonanza… Read more in Amazon's I am Abomination Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Technical Electronica Metal with a Soul.., May 11, 2010
This review is from: To Our Forefathers (Audio CD)
Long has Ferret Music Recording Label been releasing quality band's that bend genre's, define creativity and generally bring something new and fresh to the table. I Am Abomination hailing from Taylor, MI boasts insanely technical musicianship backed by tasteful electronic samples that range from epic dramatic orchestral arrangements to subtle keyboard synth. Vocalist Phil Druyor truly shines with a wide range and some excellent higher pitched vocals backed by solid lyrics that will having you singing along in minutes.

It is safe to say I am a fan of these Michigan natives and being from Michigan myself I support there efforts and plan to see them live as soon as I can. Fans of Technical/Progressive Metal most likely can enjoy this though if you prefer the growling/screaming vocals you might be turned off. Fans of Metal that has heavy usage of Electronica will be pleased as well as Screamo/Emo fanboys as Phil has a similar style just far more mature. All in all an excellent release and easily one of the best Independent releases this year.

Though short it is an amazing album and is worth the price of admission. Also from what I have seen and heard is a band to catch live. My personal favorite tracks are: 'Since 1776', 'Cataclysm', 'The Deceiver' and 'Element 151' however 'Rock N' No Soul' exceeds them all and is becoming one of my favorite tracks ever and is a must hear. All the tracks on To Our Forefathers can be heard on the band's official MySpace. Thanks for reading and I hope my review was helpful. Shout out to Will who got me hooked on these guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars For the metalcore fan needing variety, January 10, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: To Our Forefathers (MP3 Download)
It's not mainstream metalcore in the All That Remains-Killswitch Engage variety. The music is intense but as much as other groups. It emphasizes melodic riffs over blistering solos, clean vocals (almost exclusively) over screaming, and some electronic instruments alongside the guitars. The result is unique and perfectly enjoyable, especially when you want to listen to something that's a bit metal but not TOO metal - a palate cleanser of sorts. There aren't many songs that leap out and grab your attention (Rock N' No Soul comes closest) but no outright duds and enough variety to carry a 10-song album. If you want brutality and intensity it might not be your thing, but if you want something with metal roots but that branches out and tries new things it's worth a listen. I got it for $5 and have zero regrets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet n' Solid, December 20, 2010

This review is from: To Our Forefathers (Audio CD)
Without a doubt a solid album - full of high tempo hardcore goodness: insane guitar, sweet melodies, accessible (yet-technical) vocals, intense drums, and extremely polished production. Not really a screamo album, but it still fits in pretty near to the genre.
