I purchased this dressmaking set for 18" dolls at Target for around $15, and think it's the cutest "Our Generation" accessory set yet. As someone who sews, I just want to meet the person who decided what items were to be included and shake their hand, because it really does include all the gadgets you would need for sewing. (For instance, the iron & ironing board? Critical sewing accessories that most people wouldn't think of. . . And especially with the spray bottle, which is totally necessary when trying to get wrinkles out of things like linen!) Also, the tiny hem gauge - who would have thought of that? And, I like how some pieces - like the hem gauge, and the sewing machine itself - have parts that move, which make it feel realistic.

I disagree with the commenter who said that nothing is "large enough to be used for a child" and that the set is therefore a rip-off. I think perhaps that person misunderstood the point of the set. It is not meant to be a sewing activity set for little girls, but rather, a pretend sewing set scaled for the DOLL. And, they nailed that, in my opinion. Everything was perfectly scaled to suit the 18" doll, such as American Girl doll. I was even happy to see that things like the thimble and scissors fit over the doll's finger. I also think it's pretty obvious that the pattern envelope included doesn't actually include a pattern. It would have had to have been bigger, or at least much thicker, to have had all the pieces/instructions that would have been needed to be included. And, as far as the comment that "all the items listed can only be placed in front of the doll for her observation and inaction" - first of all, some of the items do have moving parts (like the hem gauge, which you can really slide up and down, and the sewing machine, which you can raise and lower the presser foot and needle on), and secondly, the idea behind doll accessories like this is that the child brings her imagination to it. I can totally imagine being a little girl and having a ball unrolling the tiny bolt of fabric, and having my doll "iron" it, and pretend to be putting it through the machine, etc. Or doing things like taking a doll dress and pretending the doll is sewing that on the machine, and then putting it on the hanger and into the garment bag. . . There is definitely plenty of opportunity for IMAGINATION and fun with this set. And I could see this set inspiring girls to really want to learn to sew, which I think is awesome too!

All in all, I think this set is perfectly to scale, works well with the American Girl brand 18" dolls, was well thought out as far as what items the set should include, is pretty good quality (especially for the $15 price tag at Target), and is completely adorable. A++++ to Battat/Our Generation for this excellant set!

I agree with Jennifer -- this set is amazingly thoughtful and detailed. My daughter (age 8) could not stop saying "awwwww" as we unwrapped each piece. The sewing machine alone is worth the price, but when you get the sewing basket and all the bits and bobs that come with it, it is a truly exceptional doll accessory. All we need now is a doll mannequin and we're ready!

We got this set at Target for 15 (plus tax). My daughter has many of the Our Generation accessories, and this set by far, in my opinion, is the cutest, maybe because I sew. The scissors actually open and close like real scissors. The lever on the machine (to hold the fabric down) even goes up and down (but you can't slide the fabric underneath because the needle is in the way and does not move). I appreciate the quality and cute details of this product.

Bought this for my grandaughter. She loves to sew, so it was a perfect gift for her doll . The price was good for the amount of sewing items enclosed. Very cute.

My grand daughters love the American Dolls and this is a very fun addition to their collection of clothes, rooms and accessories for the dolls.

I feel a little disappointed because I want to buy a real sawing machine. But the quality of the toy is good.

I was extremely disappointed in this toy for my grand-daughter!!

First of all, I paid the original price of $39.70 plus a $4.99 shipping charge, and what I received was probably worth $10-20 at the most. There is nothing large enough to be used by the child, all the items listed can only be placed in front of the doll for her observation and inaction. The "Fashion pattern" supposedly included--which I took to be a dress pattern for an 18" doll, was in fact, a paper-pattern "folder" that contained nothing. The three "fabric rolls" each contained a piece of fabric that may have been as big as 4" x 2".

If my grand-daughter's doll ever comes alive, perhaps she would enjoy playing with it, but my grand-daughter herself can do nothing with it.

I can't believe I was charged a total of $44.69 for this piece of garbage!! Therefore, it becomes my nominee for Rip-Off of the Season!
