5.0 out of 5 stars Our Lady Peace - This DVD Is Definitely Not "In Repair&
I'm an OLP fan from the "Clumsy" album forward. After buying "Clumsy" I went back and snatched up "Naveed" and loved it as well. While "Gravity" was completely mainstream and void of the creativity and unsturdy musical hooks that the first 3-4 albums demonstrated, I am not one of those OLP fans who can't listen to the latest album...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok DVD.
I LOVE Our Lady Peace, but this DVD just wasn't what I expected. The concert was a bit boring.

I'm an OLP fan from the "Clumsy" album forward. After buying "Clumsy" I went back and snatched up "Naveed" and loved it as well. While "Gravity" was completely mainstream and void of the creativity and unsturdy musical hooks that the first 3-4 albums demonstrated, I am not one of those OLP fans who can't listen to the latest album. "All For You," "Bring Back the Sun", and the bridge from "Sorry" keep pulling me back into the past with a few glimpses of the cleverness the first few albums had.

With that said, this DVD is for all OLP fans. If you loved the loud and monotonous anthems from "Gravity" or "Gravity" was your first experience with OLP, there are 6 tunes here that will keep you latched. But it's the other stuff here that's the glue to this amazing concert. The audio mixing is decent but unspectacular, and there aren't any amazing effects or distracting show elements here. But there is musical bliss going on.

"Naveed" with the "Life" interlude is an amazing 10 minutes of R&R. All the classics are here, such as "4 A.M." "Clumsy", "Superman's Dead," "Starseed," and "The Birdman." The cover of The Cars tune "Drive" is fantastic and fits perfectly with Raine's vocals. It's one cover that's worth of a studio recording.

While old-school fans will miss hearing a few of the rare gems they have played live over the years, and I'll personally miss not hearing things like "Julia," "Automatic Flowers," and a lot of Happiness is Not a Fish That You Can Catch songs like "Blister" and "Thief." But I'm still blown away by this band, even with the mainstream stuff they've come out with. Even though I know it's not the golden river of music that's poured out of OLP in the past, "Gravity" era music is STILL better than 99% of everything else I hear on the radio, if just for the lyrics and vocals.

This DVD is a must-have for an OLP fan - I think we're all hoping for more experimentation with their next record, but until then - this should keep those OLP concert cravings subdued in the comfort of your own house.

5.0 out of 5 stars Possibly the greatest ever live DVD?, July 31, 2004
This review is from: Our Lady Peace - Live (DVD)
The OLP Live DVD just shows you why music DVDs are so popular. If all live DVDs were like this there would be no bad music in the world. The special features aren't up to much but there is a good "making of" feature which gives it an edge. A must buy for any OLP fan or even a person who only likes one of their songs - this DVD will blow them away.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, March 28, 2005

This is a great concert by Our Lady Peace... If you have listened the Live CD extracted from this concert you are still missing a lot of songs.

Our Lady Peace is for sure one of those groups that sound great in a CD... but even better LIVE

Stop reading this review, and Buy this DVD, you won't regret about it

Just received my copy today (stuck out here in the Pacific, took a while to find out it existed).

I'm still in the process of watching it for the first time, but I just feel like shouting to the world just how awesome this band is. If you're an Our Lady Peace fan, you'll love this DVD. Even if you're not a big OLP fan, but do like a good rock performance, you'll get some enjoyment out of this. Great bands are always better live than any album can capture.

The rendition of Naveed is just amazing! And I've still got two thirds of the disc to go... can only get better!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Live Performance, May 20, 2006
This review is from: Our Lady Peace - Live (DVD)
This concert follows their 2002 CD "Gravity". The credits read "Recorded on the Fear of the Trailer Park Tour in Calgary, Edmonton and Montreal, Canada - January/February 2003."
I happen to have seen Our Lady Peace during their "Spiritual Machine" 2000 tour which was amazing and a great CD btw. They have their own following as Raine Maida enjoys the audience vocal particapation. They cover a number of their tunes from past albums. They even do a cover of The Cars "Drive" which is a very good version. Also a theme song for WWE "Whatever". Also a new song that so far hasn't been released titled "Our Time Is Fading".
You also have their staple encore of "4AM" as the audience sing the song. I've seen this live which I have to admit was amazing to actually experience.

As for the camera work it's different angles w/ plenty of close ups as well as full stage view.
The band is in great form as they perform w/ the line up from "Gravity" plus additional musician Michael Eisenstein (who's in the dark). Excellent guitar work during the beginning of "Naveed" and Steve Mazur solo during "The Birdman". Raine is a very emotional singer as he performs to the crowd. This band is very cool to watch w/ Jeremy's drumming and some heavy bass from Duncan. Raine even straps on the occasional guitar as his voice is strong even w/ him running around on & off stage.

The extra footage included on this DVD is...

Interview - w/ the band which they seem to be very humble w/ no ego. They really seem to appreciate the fans.
On Tour - shows the behind the scenes from in the studio to on the road in many different areas of the world. Also some interviews w/ the band and life on the road.

Gallery - is a bunch of still shots from this tour.

Videos - include 3 which are "Starseed" a video of the live performance along w/ special effects.
"Thief" an acoustic performance of this number from some other show.
"Not Enough" a multi-angle screen shot of this live performance. It could be a 4 split screen to view each member. Very good.

Other extras include a Discography & Band list.

You don't have to be a big fan of Our Lady Peace to enjoy this DVD. I say even if you have one of their CDs it's worth viewing this band.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard rockin', high energy show without the frills., June 12, 2004

John K. Lewis (Ocoee, FL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Our Lady Peace - Live (DVD)
This DVD takes the live CD to a new level. Their energy in their Canadian homeland takes the music to a whole new level. There's no pyro or crazy theatrics, just hard rock.

The highlight of the DVD is the song 'Birdman' which had absolutely no business being left off the CD. Crank up the 5.1 and it's almost like you're there.

The special features are bare and there's a badly produced interview thrown in there. There are multiple angles on 'Not Enough' which is neat. Normally the lack of special features would bring down my score but the concert more than makes up for that. Must buy for any hard rock fan.

I have been a fan of OLP for some time. I own all the cds so purchased the dvd as a special treat. It is wonderful. A very energetic band, powerful and compelling. My only complaint is that my personal favorite 3:00 A.M. which concluded the set was more of an audience sing-along. Not really performed by the band. Overall, a very, very nice dvd. I recommend it.

For all of you out there that is a big OLP fan, this completes your set! It's like being there at the concert. One thing I love about this DVD is that the video is so clear and you can hear the music perfectly. They have good interviews and all different songs, more than what they had on their live CD. And having to watch beautiful Raine Maida sing in the privacy of your own house makes it even better. :) I recommend this DVD to anyone who loves OLP and would like to actually watch them sing then to hear it!!
