I own this CD and I have to say I enjoy listening to it especially because of the musicians involed. The very talented Keanu Reeves plays bass and Mr Robert Mailhouse is great on the drums. The most talented dude of all is Bret Domrose, who keep it all together with his great guitar work and sterling vocal skills. I highly recommend this CD.

If you liked their third album, Happy Endings, then you will definately like this sophmore album! My favorite track is Honestly Anyways. It has similar tones as Happy Endings has. What an Awesome band!

Dogstar is one of my favorite bands. They have a garage/alternative style to them which is way cool. I highly recommend this Cd. They do a remake of 'No Matter What' I love listening to them play that song! My favorite though is 'Honesty Anyway'. This is a group that plays those "feel good" songs--you know what I'm talking about. Thay sing about things in life that everybody experiences...everyone can relate. This is a must have CD!

I never heard Dogstar's music until recently. The songs are becoming more familiar and welcoming each time I play them. My favorite is "The History Light". Bret Domrose is strong as the lead vocalist and guitarist. Rob Mailhouse on drums and Keanu Reeves on bass are excellent! It's amazing that the band wrote and performed their own music. So much talent!Rough Around the EdgesOur Little VisionaryQuattro FormaggiHappy Ending

I first got the CD because of Keanu Reeves, but oh my goodness they are really good. The songs sound sort of similar, but they get in your head and refuse to leave.

Forget Keanu: The Star Is Bret Domrose,

This is a great album, and the fact that movie star Keanu Reeves is the bass player has very little to do with it. Dogstar is a three man band, Keanu on bass, Rob Mailhouse on drums, and Bret Domrose who plays all the guitars, writes the songs, and sings. Domrose is a tremendous talent; his songs are consistently strong, he writes extremely memorable melodies, his guitar playing shows a wonderful range of textures and moods, he is equally impressive playing lead or rhythm, and he has a powerful, husky voice that is a perfect vehicle for his songs. The other two band members provide capable support without calling attention to themselves. The music struck me at first as being a bit on the power pop side, but as I came to know the songs better, that label no longer seemed appropriate. For one thing, there aren't much in the way of harmonies to be found here, and for another thing, it is the slower songs that really stay with you. My favorites are "Nobody Home", "Breathe Tonight", "The History Light", "And I Pray", and "Bleeding Soul". They also cover Badfinger's "No Matter What". For just three guys and minimal overdubs, it's amazing how full and satisfying this music is. The closest comparison I can make is to the album "No Regrets" by SVT (circa 1980 or thereabouts), but as that group is even more obscure than Dogstar, I doubt if that will help many people. But if you love this album, then I'd recommend trying to track down the SVT record in your local used vinyl store. And if Domrose ever decided to upgrade to a bass player closer in talent to himself, I sincerely hope the Keanu fans won't abandon him.

I BREATHE TONIGHT IN THE HISTORY LIGHT AND I PRAY...,
This review is from: Our Little Visionary (Audio CD)
...WITH HONESTY FOR BLEEDING SOULS EVERYWHERE.I own all three CD's of Dogstar and this one has always been my favorite. I give it 5 stars without a moment's hesitation because of the EMOTION. Music IS emotion. Now THIS IS MUSIC! Dogstar accomplishes here what few musicians boldly and fearlessly express--honesty, longing, pain, fear, and my personal favorite of the day--HOPE. The Emotion expressed in OUR LITTLE VISIONARY is very impressive. Thanks Dogstar! My favorites are "Forgive", "Our Little Visionary", "BREATHE TONIGHT", "THE HISTORY LIGHT", "HONESTY ANYWAY", "AND I PRAY", "Enchanted", and "BLEEDING SOUL." HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! |
