4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for streching 30 min into 98
This 98 minute film starts out on How Miss Brooks comes to a new city to teach at Madison High and introduces us to the characters that were featured on radio and television from 1948 and on, thus a good introduction to people unfamilar with the 30 minute radio/television comedy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Our Miss Brooks
This disappointing film is based on the characters AL Lewis created for Radio and later for TV. Much of the comedy of the series was based on the futile pursuit of the bashful biology teacher, Mr. Boyton by Connie Brooks, the wise cracking English teacher played by Eve Arden. This movie was apparently made to satisfy the pent up demand for Miss Brooks to get her...

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good for streching 30 min into 98, March 1, 2003
This review is from: Our Miss Brooks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This 98 minute film starts out on How Miss Brooks comes to a new city to teach at Madison High and introduces us to the characters that were featured on radio and television from 1948 and on, thus a good introduction to people unfamilar with the 30 minute radio/television comedy.

It keeps the character traits and comedy of the radio/TV series and introduces a bit of drama that would not be out of touch with today. It shows Ms. Arden's underrated dramatic acting talents in this way.

I doubt any updated modern film version the series would be just as good

If one had never seen the TV/Radio series and judges it as just a movie, it would be a very good family film, if the children were of the grade 5 to 13 age.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Classic Television Sitcom, September 3, 2003
By A Customer
"Our Miss Brooks" made a successful transition from radio to television in 1952 (even winning an Emmy Award in 1954 for its star, Eve Arden, in the role of English teacher Connie Brooks). During the next five years, viewers were treated to the weekly antics of the students and staff of Madison High School with a cast that, in addition to Miss Arden, included Gale Gordon (Principal Osgood Conklin), Robert Rockwell (Chemistry teacher Philip Boynton), and Richard Crenna (student Walter Denton). This delightful two-episode ("Christmas Show" and "Here Is Your Past") video reminds us that the sitcoms of "The Golden Age of Television" did not begin and end with "I Love Lucy" and "The Honeymooners."

5.0 out of 5 stars A great film!, December 31, 2001
This review is from: Our Miss Brooks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I found this movie to be very good and very entertaining as well. Eve Arden was great in it. It has everything from comedy to romance. It's a film the entire family can watch.

2.0 out of 5 stars Our Miss Brooks, November 30, 1999

This review is from: Our Miss Brooks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This disappointing film is based on the characters AL Lewis created for Radio and later for TV. Much of the comedy of the series was based on the futile pursuit of the bashful biology teacher, Mr. Boyton by Connie Brooks, the wise cracking English teacher played by Eve Arden. This movie was apparently made to satisfy the pent up demand for Miss Brooks to get her man. Unlike the Radio and TV Series, there are few laughs in the movie, as it is rather maudlin in tone. Not only does Connie get her man, but she is able to help a very troubled student played by Nick Adams. Richard Crenna plays the high spirited student Walter Denton, and Gale Gordon is the cranky principal Osgood Conklin. They were great foils for Eve Arden on Radio and TV, but are unfortunately confined to minor roles in the movie. The type of misunderstanding that provided high comedy in the 1/2 shows is used to provide melodrama in the movie. All that being said, I think true fans of Our Miss Brooks will want to add this flawed piece to their collection, as it is not likely to be remain available indefinitely

5.0 out of 5 stars Shamelessly Dated but Surprisingly Poignant, August 28, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Our Miss Brooks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Sweet, funny, VERY 1950s in attitude about women, work, and marriage. With the typically tart and amusing Eve Arden and a stellar supporting cast. Special kudos to the actress playing her landlady: the kind of woman you would want for a grandmother. She reminds me of mine so the film gets 5 stars so you will all run out and buy it.
