4.0 out of 5 stars Worthy of a perusal..., April 18, 2000

The first collection certainly pales in comparison to this. The many guises of life are captured by some of the poets in this collection. However, I am amazed at what can be classified as poetry. Though it is obvious all contributors have something to say, few say it poetically. While many just seem to teeter on confusion while attempting to find a concrete resolve to their poetic disadvantage, some simply put pornography to verse. Contemporary or not, poetry should be respected. Not slaughtered.

There are a few poems sitting with me still (check out Brett Axel, Tatiana Sanchez, Magnus Johansson, and Kerry Iona Dempster). These contributions, and a few more, speak volumes. One or two are even award material.

Worth a read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A few diamonds and some rubble, June 13, 2000
This review is from: In Our Own Words : A Generation Defining Itself (Volume 2) (In Our Own Words (Marlow Peerse Weaver)) (Paperback)
A good synopsis of recent trends in modern poetry, having a global perspective, showing a world of poets writing in the English language. The selection of poets is wide enough to include some dyslexic junk, maybe the editor wanted to shock in a few cases. However once you exclude that, just let yourself be amazed by poets like Mikhail Daedalus or Kathleen Isacson. Definitely worth more than its price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A collection of thought provoking, interesting poetry., March 30, 2000
This review is from: In Our Own Words : A Generation Defining Itself (Volume 2) (In Our Own Words (Marlow Peerse Weaver)) (Paperback)
This second volume of generation x poetry includes a lot of new voices. Like the first collection, the book includes a variety of abilities, backgrounds, and styles. This book not only gives insight into the expressions of generation x, but provide a glimpse into the future of poetry.
